My desire for dreads has once again awakened.

However, i am under siege of dilemna

First of all, my hair is fairly thick, when it grows long naturally, it just looks wierd.

I am having difficulty deciding on what method i will do to aquire dreads.

Also, out of backcombing, neglect and rubbing wool on my hair, which do you guys find more effective or efficient? And dont be afraid of including your personal experience.

I like neglect’s simplicity, but i fear i may mess up the progress by moving my hair out of my eyes and face, and the possibility that my hair wont even dread after all that time.

I have also heard of a method known as brush rubbing, which includes using a soft brissled brush, and rubbing the hair in clockwise motion.

Backcombing sounds good, but with all the negativity torwards wax and my worry of damage to my scalp prevent me from going thru this method.

And the same goes for wool.

    thanks

the brush rubbing and wool rubbing are basically the same idea, i think. neglect is neat and i'm sure you wont screw it up by moving the hair out of your eyes. I've never heard of someone having there scalp damaged by backcombing but that's just me.

what i did was backcomb it and just let it go. no wax or bands, just a push in the right direction.

backcombing can be done without wax, but it sounds like your hairs perfect for neglect
i did have a few lilk loose strands in the front from pushin em ouytta my face, some i kinda played with a bit some i just tied a knot in the end and let em dread and some just eventualy did theyre thing

keep in mind though, wool rubbing and backcombing are not methods to get dreads they are a pre-dreading attemt to control the dread process only
all actual dreading comes from neglect
the backcombing just gets it started by secioning and starting a few knots

    thanks

i was thinking of just doing the backcombing method, and after hearing all the warnings about wax kinda detered me from doing it. I just want to get a solid start is all.

Hey im going to start dreading my hair too via wool and im just wondering what does it mean to "neglect"? Also does the wool really work? i tried it alittle and it kinda made my hair into an afro but i dont see how that will eventually dread it.

neglect..it a poor term that just means do nothing or as littlke as possible just let nature take its course

the wool will get things started knotting...staticy and crazy..and ready to cling..if its makin it an afro like..then pul it into sections..
once ya have section ..or individual dreadlings....maybe rub each 1 seperately..especialy the roots where the knots will want to form 1st
i dunno i never rubbed with wool, but did wear a wool hat alot early on
