Ok, I have a pretty unique problem here...I have a ton of thin dreads on my head - probably 100+ (ok, to be honest, a lot of them don't look like dreads - but the hairs are holding together by the width of a toothpick, say)...I have tried letting them do their thing for a year now and they won't congo to save their life for some reason. The woman that originally backcombed my dreads said she could comb the roots of them together to thicken them up. Good idea?
Backcombing the roots won't work.. I don't think... Instead stick some little beads on a few to combine them
no i mean like some wool yarn or something.. grab a bunch of your toothpicks and wrap them all together.. not super tight though. here is a diagram for how to tie a wrap.. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=364273&f=209 about half way down the thread. the only picture in there.
try picking two or three (or how many you want) and rubbing the roots together on you head. put a bead around them and repeat the rubbing every day. wash every three days orso (or less), to give 'm time to tighten a little. Wrapping would probably work too. Maybe you should let someone else have a look of which dreads will fit together. I tried making congo's myself, but some hairs just don't want to be together. Than you'll end up with splitted roots.
That sounds like a good game plan. I'm used to washing once a week, though - you think 3 days or even less would help tighten better?...it'll be my dreads' 1 year birthday in a few days. It's funny, today my hair looks more like dreads...I picked them out a couple days ago, as I had a lot more length than was showing, so maybe that helped, as they are lying more flat against my head versus out to the sides (where they were more curly, unruly and a lot shorter)... Thanks again everyone for all the advice.
Well, I've tried washing every three days, but every time I wash there's about a half dollar size wad of hair that comes out... ...I'm so disappointed...I've had these for over a year now and they don't look any better than the 2nd week...something's gotta give...I'm thinking about cutting my hair short and saying 'fuck it'...this is ridiculous...So many people just leave their hair alone and it knots up and my hair is curly, too...I'm really tempted just to backcomb these little strands together or make a few giant dreads and separating from there...
Your last post was ten days ago. Not much is going to happen in ten days. If it makes you feel better then back comb them. Everyomes hair locks up at different rates. Theres one guy on youtube who went natural and he's coming up to his third year and virtually no progress has been made. Pics really would help.
The thin strands are just held together by so few hairs...it looks like normal hair...pictures wouldn't barely be distinguishable from un-dreadlocked hair. The back is locking up though. I don't know what it is. If I backcomb, Should I backcomb the roots or the tips together?
It's really hard to give advice without pics though even if they do look like undreaded hair. At least them we can see how ourselves how bad they are. Backcomb roots together then tips.
what hdh said, we just need clear pictures of your hair then we can help properly. it's hard to describe your hair..hdh do you have a link for that natural guy?
Did you add the beads as worldpeace suggested? I really think if you added some wraps to them it would help. You can use wool and just wrap a couple or few dreads together loosely like the background pick with the red adn yellow. That will certainly help them knot together more.
I think it's this guy (I can't tell don't have speakers.) He had loads of comments off people saying that he may as well cut them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iB5MzG0BAk&feature=channel_page My bad, they're two years old his but you can't tell they're any older than two months til the 20th month. Yeah... There's loads of video's from him though. Very inspiring for people like OP who needs to post pictures. It's like asking "is this a mole or a freckle?" with no pictures.
i would say just feed the dreads through the roots of the ones around it to make bigger ones, they should just grow out together after that.. again, pictures would make advice easier
