took me five and a half hours to whittle this wood pipe isnt it awesome its pine out of my neighbor wood pile
good job. If i had the talent, I would carve a hand and an arm where you put the grass in the hand and smoke from the end of the arm...the fingers would be quite hard to do tho.
Nice work. It looks like the bowl and, presumably the stem hole, were made with a drill. What diameter bits did you use?
If I were you, I would get some leaf and smoke a few bowls of that before using bud. The leaf is less dense and burns at a lower temp. That allows resin and ash to build up a little before the heat that will convert the raw wood into charcoal. Any broken-in wood pipe has a ring of charcoal (fire hardened wood) around the bowl. That, plus the poor air flow, keeps the pipe from bursting into flame. One worry of mine would be that the stem hole will absorb a lot of resin and will be realy nasty. Wood pipes rock, but the next time you should go through the scrap bin a local (I said LOCAL not chain) lumber store and buy a scrap of hardwood. Exotic hardwoods sometimes have toxins so it would be best to stick to food wooods like cherry, oak (acorns are eatable) and walnut. Poplar may be cheaper, but I'm not sure about their toxicisty. By the way, have you noticed that, because of the length of the narrow drill bit, your pipe will fit almost perfectly in a normal perscription bottle?
