I'm new to this forum, but the reason I joined was to ask a very important question. I recently had a kundilini awaking experience. I had only been practicing yoga for a very short amount of time prior (four months) and had no previous experience with it. It happened after I meditated for about fifty minutes. I'll describe it. I felt this warm energy move up my spine and I felt very peaceful. Here's an excert from this journal entry I wrote about it.

I was feeling content and peaceful at this point. After the shower I was drying myself off when all of a sudden the bathroom got brighter. It was as if I “woke up”, more like I was “shocked” awake. It just sort of happened. I felt no desire for anything. My mind was split in two. “I” was witnessing my ego trying to make sense of what was happening. It was a loss of self. Pure bliss flooded my body. I was very joyful. Immediately I thought of the Buddha and of what happened to him when he reached Enlightenment. The demon of ego and desire sent his beautiful daughters to tempt the Buddha (in his mind), but he merely gazed upon them, feeling no desire for them, merely witnessing their presence. That’s how I felt that night. I was merely the witness. I felt no desire for sleep, for food, sex, anything like that. I was content with just being. Walking into my room, with a Buddha smile on my face, I remember this incredible energy radiating off of me and when I walked into my empty room, I felt this strong presence as I entered. I felt like the whole universe could feel me and I could feel the whole universe.

My question to all of you is, is it dangerous to have this happen so fast to such an inexperienced person as myself? I heard that people could go insane from experiences such as this. I'm a little afraid to continue with meditating because of the stories I've heard.

    There are several possible explanations.

The first is you've had a genuine experience. You must remember that your present life is based upon the karma accumulated over many lifetimes. Maybe you were just ready in this lifetime.

The second is the possibility of brute forcing the door open. This has many pitfalls as your fears indicate. But on the bright side, it gives you a glimpse into something others may never experience. It will help acclimatize you should more of these episodes happen. A "competent" teacher is recommended.

And lastly, it could be a product of your own mind. The mind is a wonderful tool that creates the world around you. I mean that in exactly the way I said it. The outer reality you perceive in a normal waking state is a projection that starts within the mind itself.

You've no doubt heard that "God" is a creator god. Part of our inheiritance from this creator god is the ability to create ourselves. Our mind spins a cocoon of creation around us, and we fall asleep within it. When we wake up, we believe this inner world is all there is, and we live accordingly. We are unaware that we create it as we go.

Sometimes, desire is strong enough to create results without basis in reality. It is like a mirage in the desert. We chase after it without the understanding of why we can't catch it.

I suggest you seek a teacher to help you determine which of the above applies to you. Choose wisely.

Kundalini is a dangerous road to travel alone. It is even more dangerous with an incompetent teacher.

I forgot to mention that I did have a sudden realization that I have lived many past lives. It was like I just knew.

That was a very powerful experience for a new meditator but awakening of "witness consciousness" is the object of meditation. You did not say anything about being uncomfortable or afraid so I assume this was a comfortable state for you. Osho talks about the witness a lot. go to www.oshoworld.com or go to my site at www.ibreathe-in.com for more information

I must admit that I was under the influence of marijuana when this happened. I don't do that and meditate anymore. Wasn't Osho a corrupt enlightened being?

How can you be corrupt and enlightened? I think they are mutually exclusive states.
