I'd say average for a grown woman in the US is around size 10-12, most likely. Teens and young women, average would probably be a bit smaller.

depends on your market, really. like here in fort collins, overweight people are VERY rare. it's a very fitness oriented group. durango was much the same. however, in farmington, the bible belt, overweight VERY common.

KC is right...it all depends on where you live.

In the Midwest where I live...the average size would be higher than say, SoCal.

I would say a size 10-12 based on where I live.

when i used to sell a lot on ebay, i made all my pants at least 40" across the hips - that'll cover you up to about a size 10/12, and if it's a smaller person (and the pants have a drawstring waist), they can still wear them, but it'll just have a baggier fit.

that was five or so years ago though, if i was doing it today i'd probably make them 42" at the hip.

    good luck :)

well, consider this. most of the people buying your product will most likely be happy to alter the sizes of their clothes. in that case, go a little big.

Just make a wide variety of sizes. Around cities, people tend to be a little more overweight and a little smaller in the suburbs and rural areas. That's just what I've noticed and I've been all over the country.
