So I was just sitting in my car in the driveway.....and this bird landed on top of the car and started screaming a sound I've never heard from a bird. It lasted about 30 seconds and then it flew into my freakin car! Ricocheting off of every surface in the car like a screaming pin ball with wings. I jumped out and mr. Bird continued this behavior for another 30 seconds and then flew away like nothing ever happened. WTF?
haha. Birds are crazy. I was attacked by a caged bird once. It was my friend's mom's bird and this bird was fucking annoying and evil...not that I blame it, no one should ever cage a bird. My friend let it out of its cage one day and it flew straight in my hair and proceeded to bat its wings 500 mph in my hair. and so now I have a bird phobia.
I had something similar happen, except the bird accidentally flew into my sunroof. He was chillin for a minute until he realized I was in the car and started going ape shit...shit all over the place. It was brutal. Some birds lose their minds, I think. A few years ago, we had a bird that would just continuously fly into our kitchen window over and over and over again. I think he got brain damage from it.
thats amasing i have had them attack me while walking down the street and have had them crash in to the sliding glass door but have not had one in my vehcle yet.
I spent some time trying to identify it on the web, to no avail. Wasn't a robin though. Same size maybe a bit bigger. Black and grey with white markings on its wings.
grey catbird? or a mocking bird. they can get pissed off and are not really afraid of people or predators.
Darker than that, and bigger. They're mostly black so the white pattern on its wings and tail really stand out.
Most birds are very aggressive if they think their nest is in danger... They really don't care how big their opponent is. Erin the crow has a cage, she is in it most of the time with the gate wide open so it's her choice to be in there. She feels very safe and comfortable there even though she has a playground on top and the rest of the house if she wanted. I close the gate at night and when I'm gone for long periods of time for her own safety. If you own birds the cage is not cruel, it's for their own safety. What is cruel is when people own birds but they don't interact with them.... Birds are very social animals and need that interaction.
I'm so jealous, T. I've wanted a crow for a while now. My husband said his Granny had one all the time he was growing up. She lived with his parents. Hers stayed outside but came and sat on her shoulder every time she went outside and called him. Me? I buy the fake crows from the Halloween stores, lol.
Hubby's Granny was Native American. He said she had several different Crows throughout her life. Every time something would happen to one of them, she'd send her son out to get her another baby Crow.
I just don't really think wild animals should be pets. My friend's mom interacted with her crazy ass bird all the time. It still hated being in a cage. It hated being out of a cage. It would have been happier in the wild. All animals would be happier in the wild. I don't even like zoos. I know that zoos can be beneficial sometimes. I know they can help endangered species. But I still just get this horrible, sinking feeling when I go to a zoo. It feels so unnatural. Thats basically how I feel about birds being kept as pets too. No offense intended. I don't think its cruel by any means that you have a crow as a pet. It sounds kinda cool to be honest. I don't really think its cruel to cage a bird, per se. Just unnatural. I wouldn't do it. To each his/her own.
Erin would not have survived in the wild... So I disturbed the natural order of things by saving her life and giving her a different life that crows normally don't have.
I got attacked by a bird while wearing a dress with a peacock pattern...think it thought I was either a bird rival or an aggressive flower...it sure freaked the hell out of me, and now I hate birds, too. To the OP - it kinda sounds like a magpie to me. The behavior sounds about right, too.
I have to agree with the new nest theory here. Your car was probably too loud, or was vibrating the nest somehow while the engine was running. Or it was just too close to the nest. I heard birds are descended from dinosaurs. You're lucky it wasn't a pissed off dino mom coming over and chewing on you some to stop the perceived threat.
