hey how can I attach some synthetic dreads to my real dreads to create a fuller head of dreadlocks? so not extensions that I attach to the ends of my dreads, but to the scalp or close to?
Felting needle! Buy one on ebay for a quid or two. I attached a felt dread to one of my dreads with one and it was stuck there for a year or something. I cut it out, I coulnd't have pulled it it out ^^ Watch a vid or read how to use one.
I don't agree with this.. The whole point to me on having dreads is to shed yourself of vanity. To grow to be a more patient person, and ultimately the result of your patience is rewarded. To just sew on fake dreads....it's like shitting on the beauty behind the entire process.
There's no right reason for getting dreadlocks. I appreciate your logic of getting dreadlocks, but I happen to be one of those people who personally doesn't put much meaning behind it. I just want something I can wake up in the morning and go, without having to worry about showering/blowdrying/straightening/whatever. And it doesn't necessarily lose the patience aspect putting in a couple fake dreads. I still have to wait for my real ones to mature.
....you just don't have to work for it that way. You damage your real dreads by sewing in the fake ones. All for what, so you can look like your someone who's patient and not vain.
You know, I get the idea behind 'shedding vanity' but at least in my case, it's not true at all. I went from never washing my hair and never doing anything to it, never caring anything about it at all, to washing it every week with special concoction (not too special, baking soda), making sure it doesnt get too oily, making sure I leave it down enough so it gets tangly (which drives me up a wall), and constantly wondering what my crazy mess of hair looks like to other people (it's kind of important that people generally approve of me in this tiny town). All that. I would say dreading my hair has made me pretty damn vain. And that slightly bothers me but not enough to get rid of the dreads. Yeah and for crandall, to each his own, there should be no judgement for doing whatever the hell you want.
How is backcombing any comparison to sewing on fake dreads. It takes a long time for backcombed sections to become dreads. ALSO! I don't backcomb. I did mid sept. Occasionally I would do it because my hair is so straight/wavy. And I gave it up completly today....my dreads will take a long time to form. There is no comparison.
what? who cares anyways what I do with my dreads. I'm not asking anyone else to do it. If it bothers you that much, get the stick outta your ass and quite being so judgemental
Do whatever you want. I'm allowed to voice my opinion. I didn't mean to come off as an asshole. Ultimately it's your hair and you'll do whatever you want with it.
Dang guys, this post got a little nasty. IMO you all should play nice, everyone has there own way of doing things, everyone has there own needs in life. Im sure everyone of you have been judged for your dreads, i mean i know my kid has and shes only 10 if someone is going to be an ass hat towards a child i know they are gonna be worse towards an adult. So why judge someone because they are doing it a little diffrent? no one way is the better then the other and one way is not best for diffrent life styles.
Dreads aren't delicate little butterflies; if you touch their wing they'll die.. NO dreads are matts of bloody hair!!!!! Jesus stop being so precious!!! The dread I put my felt dread in is still standing, I had to cut the felt dread off but the dreads itself is FINE no damage!!!! It's got as much damage as however much it took to cut the dread off!!!!! Oh, and so I attached a fake dread that makes me vain and impatient?! And anyway, fake dreads aren't vain. Don't generalise. I don't think that by backcombing my dreads I "shat" on the natural process. I just skipped a step. I appreciate the natural process but .. really. Crandell the best way to attach a felt/real hair dread is by using the felting needle. Sewing it in will leave stitch marks and the thread will get eaten up by the main dread. 2 years ago I sewed a couple of my dreads together in the view to make them thicker, a week later I changed my mind and un-did them, I still find a couple of dreads with thread stuck inside If you want to know how to do it, PM me or something and I'll do some drawings or a picture or even a video or something. I fancy being vain and sticking fake shit in my dreads ^^
