This is an intellectual nightmare. What kind of world are we living in where every citizen in a free country has access to an astounding scientific education, and we wipe our asses with it? People walk around with this revolting assumtion: That the universe in all it's glory was created as a sort of calandar to guide the people on one relatively small planet in one solar system in one galaxy in one cluster in one super cluster in one universe... But only those who can read the signs and BELIEVE will be rewarded with this knowledge. No, the universe isn't enlightening astronomers! It's enlightening a cross sextion of the human population with limited scientific education and virtually no understanding of the cosmos.
Those great things in the sky were made to guide you through a break up. To tell you if you should sell your house. To tell you if you should have a baby. To tell you who to sleep with. You you you you you. Also, to believe this, you have to recognize that the universe is such that these constalations, etc. would only move the way they do to observers on EARTH. The assumtion becomes that either we are the only life in the universe or the only life in the universe great enough to seek the council of the stars. Us, the ones that rape babies and elected Ronald Regan and kill each other in wholesale quantities...
Where is the logic in this? that the universe waited BILLIONS of years for some race on a simple planet to share it's secrets... Suerstition I understand in armpit nations, but if you can afford a computer, you are superstitious because you are arrogant and or oblivious to simple things. You were born into an educated society and allowed yourself to attrophy into intellectual nothing. Have fun with that.

    oh, you're 18?

yeah. btdt tryin' to figure out life.

you'll get farther with optimism, cheerfulness, living & appreciating each day versus trying to put down others for what they believe or their hobbies.

hostility does no one any good.

He/she clearly wrote this to either start an argument or prove how smart he was. I don't shy away from a lively debate, but it's also not my duty to prove things to people who don't give a shit.

Same here, and I'm sure I'm going to slap my head in 20 years about what I think now.

If you think it's bullshit, don't involve yourself with it! Astrology is a guide, it doesn't dictate your life for you.

I realize hostility does terrible things to a society but is dark age thinking any bit better? In my opinion, no. Not at all. I believe ignorance to be worse. Why do people continue to think that logic is the opposite of cheerfulness? I myself am utterly bitter because I'm an innately unhappy person but as a rule idiocy and happiness are NOT the same thing. No one should ever be told to stop thinking and just let people have fun with a belief that is illogical and that they find fullheartedly to be wrong.
As for my motives, if I wanted to make people think I was smart I would go to a forum for eight year olds because I'm not the type to win what I'd call debates. And how "smart" is it to jump into a flock of people who utterly disagree with you and say something along the lines of "You're all dumb!"? The reason I did it? Utter contempt for systems of thought that are harmful, arrogant or illogical.
I despise when people believe something off the grounds of it working for them several times from what can easilly be deemed as pure chance or ambiguity of the prediction. I also despise when someone believes something because it's "fun". In addition, I despise when people go against genious scientists who spent years of their lives studying, observing, reasing, theorizing COHERENTLY and not getting laid, and then just believe the conclusions reached were "different" but equal. Like they have their way and you have yours. You get up in the morning, read a horriscope by a person with a limited education and your views are of equal caliber with someone who knows vastly more than you.
In short, I did this because I was pissed off beyond words. Just venting. Go on believing things you like because solid, stern logic is too boring. Go along, be happy- frolic. When you all die you will die the deaths of animals. Your funerals will attract family and friends and people will will cry, but in the grand scheme of things your death will mean as much as the death of a dog or a sheep or an owl, because you were illogical, simplistic animals.

Seems we have hit a nerve. I do not disagree with astronomy. Nor do I dubscribe to "dark age" thinking. The dark ages were a result of Christianity, and I am not a Christian.

I agree that all of our lives are meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but then again this is the only life I have and it's pretty meaningful to me.

If you are, as you so eloquently out it, "pissed off", then I would suggest either find a more constructive outlet, or have the presence of mind to formulate a coherent argument. If you are bitter at 18 years old, I would imagine this is your fault and not "dark age" thinking.

I wouldn't bother to do a chart. Notice I am not attempting to "defend' myself against the scathing attacks he fired at us. It's not worth it. The poor little boy is out of his league anyway.

    :)

really the main thing I wanted to convey was:

please don't worry about what happens to me after I die, because I certainly am not worrying about it.

I'm guessing he was comparing astrology to medieval science, which I guess WAS practiced back then, but I don't think he meant it in a "hey I like tradition" kind of way.
