Historically, a derogatory term for a person of African descent, it can still mean the same thing today, but when used by black people it can mean ignorant black person.

For example, Li'l Jon is a ******. Obama is a black man.

I could go into great detail here, bu tit is best to explain it this way;

White people just don't get it. There is no equivalent word for white people, so you don't understand how much it hurts when it's used against you. So white people can't use it.

 

so if ****** is such a bad word why do black people use it when talking to other black people?

 

That's really a cultural thing. It's hard to explain, but basically because it's a part of black culture.
