Im taking a drawing class and majority of thepeople in it dont want to be there it seems. As if they are there for someother reason as filler space or something for their credits...I dont know. Me on the otehr hand..I can already draw and I love the class I jsut cant wait for the "fun" classes that are not so easy for me. I get kinda annoyed at people ( I keep it to myself) who waste their time complaining for 5 hours about a class they hate. Im an artist and I love art . I was hoping at this point in my life returning to school would show my more mature people then there were in high school. Sometimes I feel like its just like high school but with a mix of people from 20's to 60's...In high school it was teh same thing people didnt want to be there. Why do people do that? Hard to find serious peopel anymore. I guess I may find them in a more advanced class.
theres plenty of serious artists.you just have to find them.visit some local artists studios and hang wiuth them, might do you good to talk to some established artists instead oif the yahoos in your class
Man thats funny... so it's just not the people in nj that are shallow.... lol. I ask myself all the time why the fuck do people even bother showing up to classes. they act like it's an inconvience to learn about technique and good composition. It's funny cause people say they're "art majors". but like they only chose art cause they had to chose to goto school for something and theres no math involved in art. it seems like no one really desires to make art, like they wouldnt even show up unless they were forced... I work in the pc lab at school, so I'm in my graphics class for an extra 3 hrs a week. even though i'm the most meticulous artist in the world, in 3 hrs i can still come up with some pretty wicked stuff. and then during critiques i look at other peoples stuff and can tell right away they didnt spend longer than 25 mins on it. dont get me started on critueing either... like people dont understand the purpose of real critizism... they think its just a chance to tear each other down. so everyones too nervous to say what they really think. critizism is really useful to me,,, like i know theres always going to be something i cant see from behind my eyes
I love it when my teacher gives me real advice like that too...and not just some crap ...I gotta learn something.
Theres a lot of crap out there when doing art, its just a matter of learning to ignore things and get on with your own stuff and take it seriously yourself. If you do that you will find others the same.
i'm a second year art student and everyone at my art school is crazy about art! i feel so lucky to be surrounded by such positive vibes towards art. especially in ceramics, my area of expertise. there's just a love going on that is impossible to ignore. sure, there were some students in my intro ceramics class who bitched about all the work, but i ignored them and befriended my teacher, a young, first year teacher who took me to chicago. it's all in who you find in these art schools. there's going to be hate everywhere, but eff hate! -zoe-
