So today I got the title of my mock exam piece for my art GCSE. It's `Personal Identity`, and my first idea is to creat a montage/collage of a load of my stuff, on some kind of board, its hard to explain but it'll basically be a collection of objects and words that mean alot to me and reflect my identity. So my request is, can anyone reccomend any artists i should look at who deal in this kind of work? I havnt come across any artists like that yet so it would be great if anyone could help me out Thanks!!
Hey, imo Collage's are great but they tend to be overloaded and senseless, so choose carefully the primary objects and scene, then according to that, set up the background with variant texture or motif that does not conflict with the main theme. Follow your feelings but don't disperse. Here's an idea/example for collage. Three elements : ocean, yacht and sunset sky. Apply the water motif on the yacht (with hints of sunset reflection), sunset sky on the sea. Then black and white from different yachts motif "en vrac" in the sky. Basically you get representation of soul over materiality, as this image represents liquid, solid and gas, esthetic appearance over physical property. It's kinda pop-art as well.
i would strongly suggest checking out carol es ... she does a lot of personal collage work ... her website is www.esart.com. a high level self-taught artist from los angeles ... definitely check out her work.
