The point of this post isn't to eulogize Aretha Franklin, so what are you really saying?

I grew up hearing her. I didn't grow up hearing John McCain.

There's an excellent article about her in People magazine. While there's mention of GW Bush (Awarding her the Medal of Freedom), there's not a peep about Trump (or McCain).

Why would there be? She was an entertainer, not a politician. McCain wasn't in a position to give medals. She was really good in the Blues Brothers. She obviously had an outstanding musical career. But her support for civil rights shouldn't be overlooked--not only for African-Americans and women, but for Native Americans and indigenous peoples everywhere.

I agree, she was a pioneer. She was worlds above the likes of Sharpton, Jackson and of course Farrakhan.

Ummm how exactly do you think she supported Native Americans? I agree with the African Americans and women from all walks of life but sorry, I really don’t see her as some supporter of native peoples. Her music touched many across many cultures but that does not put her in a place as a supporter of native people by any means.

"For many decades, she quietly and without fanfare was a mainstay supporter of Indigenous Peoples’ struggles worldwide and of Native Nations’ treaty and cultural rights and other issues mainstream funders don’t support”.
