What issues have you encountered with your weight?
Is it hard for you to gain, lose, or maintain?
Or have you never had issues?
What have people said about your weight?

You can also provide your height and weight ratio, but it's not required because I know some people are sensitive disclosing such informstion.

I'll answer these questions, if my thread doesn't die a lonely, pathetic death. No worries, I'll be fair.

yeah, i weigh about what i would like to. ideally, i would get rid of the 5 or 10 pounds of fat i have on my belly and gain the same amount back in muscle, but nobody's perfect after all.

my whole life i was never able to gain weight. i was at about 145 by probably 10th grade, and stayed between 145 and 155 until i was 27. that was when i started working in a gym, and lifted weights for the first time since high school. i immediately gained 30 pounds within a few months at that point. i stopped exercising for a few months and lost about 10 pounds, then i started again and have gained back 5 pounds in the last 2 years.

so i don't know, basically it's hard for me to gain weight, except for that one brief period when i don't know what really happened.

Yeah I am at the moment. I've lost more than I thought I could lose without going skin and bones since the beginning of the year. I am close to 7 kilos lost. I thought that would leave me with nothing. I've gone down a belt size and toned my mid section right up, I think.. Well when I flex it you can see muscular formations but I like to also remain soft and feminen looking so I'm not going for muscles at all.

Makes a difference though, even when I run I feel light. I feel it. It feels good.

I'm so glad at least two people responded. Yay!

And I'm glad they're both responses that are generally positive regarding their bodies. It's nice to hear that. There is so much self body dislike/hate nowadays.

As far as my B.M.I goes... I'm at an average weight for my age and height. Always have been like that, despite gaining and losing weight through the years. And as far as my self image goes, I'm okay with body. I know it's not spectacular like other females' bodies, but it's decent. I guess. I don't know.

I've never really had trouble with weight gain or lost, only because I never felt the need to attempt to gain or lose weight due to always being average, never overweight or underweight.

I do wonder sometimes if I put a little time or effort into my body if I could have a 'rip body', as some people call it, because I'm not doing much now and I have an average body. Again noting special, banging, whatever you youngsters call female hotties nowadays. However, I'm not into exercising (besides biking, swimming, and walking, but those are activities I enjoy, not exercise) and dieting, so I doubt I'll ever put the time and effort into it. Unless, I get pregnant. I want to eat as healthy as possible during pregnancy, when breastfeeding, and afterwards to keep up with those monsters that will be my kids. That's the only time I'm willing to exercise and go on a diet. But, I doubt I'll ever have kids because I don't think I can have them, so whatever.

People have often asked me these two questions, "How do you eat so much and not gain weight? Where does it all go?". There is this running joke in my family that as soon as you see me I say, "I'm hungry, where is the food?" One time my family totally disappeared on me and when I found them they were all gathered in the same place, and all shouted, "I'm hungry, where is the food?" So, I guess that says something. I don't eat much nowadays, though. So, I guess people can't ask me that anymore, or make jokes about it. I have been called fat and chubby, but I think that's a common thing that every woman is told, no matter her size. People have called me tiny and petite as well. Or average. They don't use those words, but you know... not fat or thin, just average.

i was always underweight until I started working out in my early 20s and put on some muscle weight.

I had a lot of body issues growing up because people felt like they could say the cruelest things to me. Its taboo to insult a fat person but I guess being skinny is fair game.. So growing up I was obsessed with my weight and I didn't eat very healthy, I tried to gain weight by eating a lot of junk food.

ironically when I started eating healthy and exercising I started putting on weight. I was still pretty lean at this point though.

when I was pregnant I put on like 40 lbs and ive lost most of the baby weight now but I'm more of an average weight now.

the funny thing is even though I had a lot of body issues it was mostly due to other people's opinions of me. I never looked in the mirror and saw an ugly body, but growing up people made me feel ugly. People are real assholes - but now all those people are fat and I'm at a perfect weight and I can work out minimally and still maintain a nice muscle tone. So jokes on them.

I am quite happy with my physique but could do with losing a couple of stones off my stomach.I started to gain weight when I started taking anti psychotic medication.I can't run or do the running machine because of operations on my hips in my early teens and the impact is to much.I am also sure my steady alcohol consumption has put on pounds, and this is something I am trying to address with my counsellor.

The issue should not be weight, but fat. When people lose weight, they are inevitably losing muscle as well. You want to maximize fat loss while minimizing muscle loss. People who take the cardio-only approach to exercise with regard to weight loss are doing it all wrong. Lifting weights coupled with adequate protein intake will spare muscle in a caloric deficit that is needed to lose fat. Chronic, excessive cardio is catabolic, meaning it leads to a breakdown of muscle, which automatically leads to lowered metabolism. Cardio is good, but not excess, and not in the absence of some form of resistance training, even if only body weight exercises. This applies to women as much as it does men.

I am very much satisfied with my weight and my physique overall, but my goal (simply a personal one) is to get down to 10% body fat, which in my opinion is ideal from both a health and aesthetic standpoint.

    ^^^ Thank you Dr. Odd.

Lost a shitload of weight last year that I didn't have an excess of. I haven't been able to gain it back. But if I had to cut back on food because I can't afford what I need to maintain it starts dropping like a rock again.

I am 5'2" and I weigh 157lbs. No, I am not satisfied. My joints hurt, I get out of breath easily, my blood pressure and cholesterol have risen (not to danger levels, but borderline), and I just feel clunky in my movement. I carry it well, so I'm lucky in that sense, but I think it's also made me lazy. I've become quite voluptuous and have often wondered if I like myself better this way. Aesthetically, I feel like I could tighten up a few spots and be pretty happy with it, but the health aspect always comes back to nag at me. I just don't feel good like this...

As a smaller person, I don't get a lot of wiggle room to eat a lot, and unfortunately, I'm an emotional eater. A desk job hasn't helped, either. I have no illusions about how I got like this, though. I know it's entirely my fault.

I have to disagree, no matter the weight, body type, or eating habits that someone has, it's never a taboo topic for anyone. Everyone has been in the situation of being scolded, or praise for their weight, body type, and/or eating habits. It's just how life is. People not only want to talk about it, like me making this thread, but they also think they're entitled to tell people that they're either too skinny or too fat, and depending on the person that can be a good or bad thing.

The sad part is that there is a great divide between people who are or look underweight and people who are or look overweight. They both have sad stories to tell, but they both blame or think it's easier for the other group. You would think because they're both experiencing the same thing in terms of thoughts and feelings, but in a different situation, that they would unite and be a support for one another. But, it's not like that.

I can't imagine how hard life is for someone who is or looks underweight or overweight. Like I said I have always been average. Sure, I've gotten more skinny comments, but I've gotten my sure of fat comments as well. I guess that's the thing about people who are average, they get both worlds. But, not to a severe degree because they're average after all. They're not too skinny or too fat to be idolized or ridicule like people who are or look underweight or overweight. They're kind of just invisible and not good enough for either group, or the people who idolize or ridicule them.

I'm technically underweight (according to BMI, which is sort of bullshit as a measure of anything). I've been about 20 lbs heavier than I am now, which was for a few months in my late teenage years, making me "average." Typically, I work out here and there, and have a job which is the perfect balance of desk work and physical work and muscle. I just try and eat real food and keep moving. Works for me, and I'm at a perfect weight, I think. Being even a little bit heavier bothers my knees and general endurance.

Same boat here. People used to say things about me being skinny when I was a kid. I just have a high metabolism. But I got bigger in a good way. They got bigger in bad ways. Now I bet the wish they looked like me. I feel a little snarky saying that but....it's true. I see people in the gym all the time, working their asses off to look something similar to what I have....while I can go to the gym or not, drink as much beer as I want and I will still basically look like this...give or take a few pounds of muscle.

As for my goals, I haven't been hitting the gym enough lately. If anyone cares to see, there is a pic on my profile gallery that someone took of me at the gym. I'm about 8 lbs lighter right now than I was in that pic. Once my shoulder feels a little better....I'd like to get that 8 lbs back and maybe put on another 10-12 lbs if I can.

I could use a little extra body mass. I feel like I'm getting a less than noticable chub, maybe? But everyone quotes Captain America when they see me.

"My God man! Someone get this man a sandwich!"

I'm trying to figure out my body fat percentage, since Pressed Rat mentioned it.
    This should be interesting.

You will need calipers for a semi-accurate reading.

To get an exact bf% you would need to have a full-body DEXA scan.
