Since you probably never left your country I can enlighten you about other cultures.

P.S. This thread is mainly directed at Americans.

So go ahead and ask me. I might even answer.

I have no interest in anything other than white, roman-catholic, working class Irishness.

    Sorry.

No problem, Redy. Other cultures feel the same about you.

I would love to learn about other cultures....but my idea of learning is personal experience. I am hoping to do my own traveling. I've been looking into the Peace Corp lately but am not quite sure if being a mother disqualifies me or not. Mosly I want to travel to be part of a revolution to better conditions for others.

I am jealous of your travels Bird.

What would you like to share about those cultures?

I'm Canadian...I've been to the US a few times, and a few states. I've also been to Israel. When I was in the US I drove there and the last time I went I got a lot of dirty looks based on my license plate. That left a bad taste in my mouth and I haven't returned since. It was strange. The people weren't very hospitable. However I had a great time in the lower states so it just depends on where you go. Israel was really cool and intense somewhat. I'm not really religious but I like Jewish culture and I really wanted to go to the Holy Land and Jerusalem and see what it was all about. They've (as one would imagine) marked the exact spot where Jesus' cross would have been. You can see the tomb, the mount where he preached, where he was born. The old city gates, Jaffa, etc. were really cool. The architecture there is really something else. The people there were some of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. It was so shocking almost seeing the contrast between here (western world) and there, people wise. I almost didn't want to leave. I plan on going back eventually. My next trip is going to be Ireland. I still have a lot of family there and I feel bad I haven't gone yet. I'm going to stay there for awhile and check out Scotland (where I also have family) and England as well.

All my life I have been surrounded by many cultures even though I haven't left my country since I was a kid. It's fun.

The culture in Israel is very cool. It was exactly the way I though it would be. A lot of the people still dressed very traditionally. Same with their diet of course. A lot of women and younger people sit around the street on huge blankets and sell awesome handmade jewelry they've made. Different parts of Israel are pretty different though. A lot of the culture within Israel is different from one another due to where you go, and considering there's a difference between all the Jewish people. They're not all 'the same style or culture' for lack of a better term. As I said like in the Holy Land and surrounding area (the Western wall was awesome) the people are very traditional. I mostly visted parts like these, the old city gates, the Holy Land and surrounding area, Jerusalem.

Same here. Where I live you don't have to go very far at all (15 minutes) to find a lot of very cool, different cultures. And they are all able to live amongst each other due to the fact that we live in Canada.

It was. It makes you really respect religion (for the most part) and them to see what lengths the Jewish people have gone to to maintain and restore their culture.

The Israelites I met were constanstly smoking, drinking and partying. Must be because they just finished their 3 years of armyhood.

Yea, I know what you're saying. But that was my experience there and it was pretty real to me.
