I mean... All you kids here in Young Hippies...

What I want to know is, are you concious of the environment, all the waste, chemicals/pollution/litter, how you act towards those around you, the foods you put in your body, etc?

And to what extent, if you are?

Mah i guess i'm overly concious or something. I try my best to do my bit, but it gets me real down just thinking about it.

We live in one fucked up cycle. Yeah so i guess it's up to us to change it, but i really don't have the mental strength right now :(

I understand food labels, and often read them for fun, thgouhg it rarely affects what I eat (ramen for example...yum, trans fats). I also know that basically everything can be recycles or composted, but I do usually, but not always. I really should bike more, and make more of an effort to turn off lights when I am not using them (and even turn off things like VCR's because you'd be suprised how much energy thos little red "standby" lights uses)

It's just that in the past week or so... I feel like I've had a complete turnaround. I mean, I guess I was semi-concious about all that stuff...

But now I'm really all of a sudden driven to conserve water/electricity, donate a good portion of my clothes, eat as much organic and natural food as possible, etc., and I've just felt.. well, nicer, to other people, and as a person. :D

That is great. I don't often donate stuff as much as I should.

I am gonna participate in the Muslim Students' Association's (at the university) Fast-A-Thon this year where you fast for one day and then money is donated to the Campus Food Bank.

Did you see David Attenborough's documentary "Can we save Planet Earth?" on the CBC a few weeks back? That is what really did it to me to conserve the energy.

I donate stuff all the time. I don't litter. I brake for animals. And, I plant flowers and trees.
I do eat fatty, nasty food that's just polluting my body, but I think that's a personal choice and I'm hurting no one but myself. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies....but, I L-O-V-E meat. I tried the veggie thing for a while....but McDonalds just got the best of me. :D

Oh, you know I loved being a veggie... then again, it's the shrimp, oysters, and such that kill me when it comes to that.

I'm huge when it comes to flipping the fuck out and pulling an E brake if someone litters out of my truck. Actually, a few people have started calling me Captain E Brake. And, as far as water conservation goes, I really don't use much water. I can be picky when it comes to paper usage and recycling. I went out on full-out personal war against alot of staff/faculty in the school, last year, since they didn't have a recycling program. I remember flipping out at one teacher after she used the excuse that we didn't have a local recycling program, though every other school I've seen in this county has their own privatized program.

As far as how I act around people, it depends on the person and the situation.

And I don't think I'll own a hybrid vehicle until they get 100mpg or more and have 220V capibility on recharges. As far as the Prius goes, the batteries have exploded, they have terrible acceleration, and in the long run, even with the government tax break in the US on hybrid vehicles, consumer reports figured you'll still spend more money than you'll make back when it comes to gas mileage, etc. And the gas mileage isn't that great if you compare it to the VW TDIs and pretty much any vehicle with a =/>2.0 liter turbo. In fact, it'd be better if they used a somewhat modified version of a turbocharged 22RE 2.2. liter engine in the Toyota hybrids.

I'm extremely conscious of this stuff ...

I eat well ( well i do try ), i recycle, buy less stuff and i even re-use almost everything...I also compost, try to save energy and stuff...

But trying to convince people to do the same is so damn hard. They say :''Well who cares'' or ''That's not my /"$%?* business''

Althoug i might be a bit annoyed when people call me granola, i can see they have a point there

I'm conscious but I'm into abundance. I do good things for the world but I don't really worry about them and hold onto them in my mind all the time. I believe there is enough and that lack is just some idea that they sold you as a kid for whatever reason. I think holding onto everything that comes your way to conserve it is a bad pattern of energy. Holding onto things in a tight stressfull way as if the world actually depends upon it is a huge waste of personal energy. Realize that there's enough and nature is always bountiful...and it's all good and that the universe will provide for all beings in their own time. All good things in all good time.

All the lightbulbs in my house are compact fluroescents, almost 100% of the food I eat is organic... and about 80% of it is vegan...but that's just the way I live now. I've been eating this way for a while now and it doesn't even phase me. It's just the way things are supposed to be. I don't talk about these things in my daily life enough to consider them something I'm conscious about.

It's also important to remember that sometimes not wasting isn't actually in harmony with our highest good or the planet were trying to help... and it actually doesn't matter...For example, maybe I just got home from dinner..and I have food in the fridge that is going bad and it'll be wasted if I don't eat it right away. Should I dump that food on top of my gourmet dinner and make myself sick just because it's about to go bad? No..just give thanks and let it go. Maybe I'll put it outside and let the raccoons have at it...and it's usually gone by the next morning. Is God gonna strike me down for wasting human food? No, she'll probably honor me for honoring myself and my body as the temple it is.

Another good example would be throwing away junk food. You might say I should give away the white flour that was in my pantry when I decided to cut back on processed food ingredients...but I've come to believe that nobody really deserves to eat garbage...so I tossed it. It's not fit for human consumption. Some might say it's a resource wasted but I say it's a poison and I'm helping rid the Earth of it. The whiter the bread, the sooner your dead. I don't wanna be responsible for killing anyone or sapping there energy :p

Trust me, there is enough food wasted in this country every hour to make what you waste look like absolutley nothing...which I don't condone at all...but I know people who have literally lived off of the leftovers on plates at restauraunts quite comfortably. America is about 5% of the worlds population..but they use 35% of the resources. We are gluttonists and we waste resources like their literally nothing...and who knows, maybe they are.

people used to eat organic all the time hundreds of years ago and lived to about 40 before they died of old age. A lot of people eat all kinds of processed food and drinks now and live to at least 70...............so what is your deduction Einstein?

Considering my dad's friend is on one of those search and rescue teams that locates bodies...

From his standpoint, it seems that we're naturally being embalmed by preservatives that linger in our systems that are in processed foods, these days. He says bodies seem to decompose slower than they used to decades ago.

I care about my environment and what I waste, about what I eat (although I love some junkfood every now and then) and where the products come from. So yes, I'm conscious.
