Are we all pathetic as we make all such sites like the Tower of Babble? There are no fundamental paradigm shifts in thinking here. Nowhere here, that I have seen, are any ever saying to their interlocutors; you have changed my mind completely. This means that we are not listening to each other or affecting each other’s thinking at a fundamental level. We are letting our biases rule us; instead of listening to others input. We are putting mental blinders on. What have you seen in yourself or in others in terms of changing the minds of others or indeed your own mind in a fundamental way? Have you seen any here fundamentally change their minds? Regards DL
Here online? Rarely (doesn't mean it rarely happens I think. I just think its rarely admitted or simply stated). 'IRL' occasionally. One of the reasons it might be rarely declared on here is that a fundamental change doesn't have to come right away. Fundamental changes often manifest gradually, but the spark of it could very well lie in a convo on this forum or even a remark from TV (for instance). Another reason is that it seems people often have more trouble admitting they're wrong than improving themselves/their behavior
Your last is key I think. Most debate to win, as I do, but my hope is to lose a debate so that I might gain the pleasure of learning something new, which is one of the greatest pleasure I know. Regards DL
