The fragile ozone layer that protects us from ultraviolet radiation has lost 40% of its ozone in the Arctic in just a few months, a new record. Scientist blame it on a an unusually cold stratosphere along with continued bombardment with man-made CFCs, which destroy ozone. Increases in human skin cancer are just one by-product of reduced ozone levels. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/05/ozone-layer-record-loss-2011_n_845061.html
I think diet has a lot to do with it. If I get a lot of sun I just make sure that I get plenty of the right fats and vitamins to keep my skin in good condition. I also put sweet almond oil on my skin from time to time. Basically, if there is any sun going around here then I'm taking it. I think the negative health effects from no sun and lack of vitamin D are a greater concern to me.
Don't talk to me about wind. You want to see some wind, come to Scotland. (technically you can't actually see wind, because you can't see air)
I don't think it makes a difference whether you take vitamins or not, the sun is still going to get you. And the fact that the worst rays aren't the ones that burn you physically should be a concern. Take Japan for example. I bet a lot of people dying from radiation tag I hear probably take vitamins too, but they aren't helping. I don't see much of a difference in that big fusion ball burning in the solar system. It literally envelopes us in radiation and until now, the poles have managed. But if they fail, boy, your vitamins mean naught.
Of course it matters. That's a ridiculous analogy. If your skin is drier and has less oils in it the suns rays are going to do more damage. If you have an old leather jacket and a new one that has just been treated with petulia oil, and you leave both out in the sun for a few days, which ones is more likely to perish?
Your analogy is more stupid. "I don't need to take care of my skin cause I take vitamins and nothing can happen to me" Stupid, just sayin'.
noone that bitches about how bad the world has become in this thread will probably ever stop driving their cars or using hairspray or etc regardless of how bad it gets. Instead of "it's all doomed man..." lets hear some "this is what I am going to do about it"
I thought CFCs were made illegal decades ago. I don't know if there's much more we can do other than to keep on not using them, and finding ways to eliminate them from the upper atmosphere.
I dunno why a chemical hasn't been invented that'll help prevent and restore the atmosphere. We invent chemicals to kill everything. =\
1am a layman, my dad a retired phsicist i wrote an article long ago on how the chernobyl stream sent into the upper atmosphere could [in my theory] have caused the ozone hole there was no mention of a dangerous hole before chernobyl to my memory i also wrote a speculative article that the cia was behind the event which brought down the soviet union russia had to open the iron curtain to aloow outside help in this brought down the union pope john paul 2nd was working closely with the nsa cia now after fukashima they say this hole is widening i dont know, but its suspicious to me regardless of the timeline they give
Stop misquoting me, idiot. I did not say that nor allude towards saying that! Eating a healthy diet full of vitamins (INCLUDING OF COURSE NOT FORGETTING VITAMIN D WHICH COMES FROM THE SUN!!!!!!) and balanced fats is part of how you take care of your skin!!! I did not say this will be a guaranteed measure to stop you form getting skin cancer if you sun bath, and I also suggested that not getting enough sun can make you will which can also lead to cancer. This is a problem from people in Scotland, myself included. I get depressed and run down if I don't get enough sun. So I get out in the sun as much as I can and I eat healthy. http://www.ayushveda.com/foods-that-prevent-cancer/
Eventually they will both "perish", that is the point. The analogy is not ridiculous because vitamins or not, your going to be effected. Worst case scenario, taking daily vitamins is not going to do much against the power of the sun.
Not that this is really the point of the thread, but there is some truth to diet affecting the sun's effect on our skin: http://www.naturalhealthcourses.com/Reading_Room/What_You_Eat.htm On the topic, tho ozone layer problem has been going on forever. It's just one more example of how we are never going to change. We might make a big stink about being progressive and "looking into" greener technologies, and when that dreaded hour comes, we might scramble around for a last minute fix when it's too fucking late and we're all doomed, but actually prevent the problem and upset the status quo? Nah, no reason to do that...
in the end... whether or not we find a "cure" for all these CFC's and other GHGs.. the effects will linger for roughly a 100 years... so no one right now will even know change is happening even if we are changing the way we live.. our current generation and the next is going to be effected... and a 100years from now.. who even knows if humans will still exist.. we've done more damage in 40 years than the world as a whole has done in roughly 300mil yrs.. imagine another 100 years even if we changed...
its has. Its Called "LIGHTNING".. you may of heard of it.. http://www.ozonewizard.com/pdfs/OzoneProductionfromLightning.pdf
