Weeell! I love Arhitecture almost as much as I love myself!! But the poor thing is not very popular, at least not as painting or sculpting... Why? I ask You?
Make the underapreciation of Arhitecture history!!! I count on you!!!

    Architecture is awsome
I love how architecture can combine all forms of art. -shape 2D and 3D, colour, texture, even sound.

WTF? Architecture is really rated by people - the problem is that its the art everone sees most of so a) its normal to them b) architects dont always get it right.

heres the problem - the architect designs an absolutely fuck off brilliant building for $40 million from design to completion - the developer says "too expensive save some cost " architect uses cheaper materials but its still quite nice - $25 million - but in the end the developer settles for all the cheapest materials - it looks shit and by that time the original architecht wants nothing to do with the plans cost $10 million for a pile of shit that will be demolished in 15 years instead of $40 million for a building that will last 300 years and looks fuckin great !

lol ronald macdonald i know what you mean.
Alot of architects these days piss around making arty farty, 5 billion dollar monstousities, which try so hard to be modern and trendy they end up looking like dentists waiting rooms and are a waste of space and not even functional.

but architecture is an art, its just a form of art that is hard to get right.

I didn't get that at all when I read Ronnie's post. He said that the end product from the original design are two different entities. I think you either didn't read it properly, or maybe his post threw you off a bit. Ronnie doesn't bite. He justsays the truth, so don't be scared of him.

Are you referring to the original concept design of a building as art, i.e. the technical drawing of it, or the building itself? In which case, does it mean that technical drawing is art and should be taught as a sngle combined lesson in school, or perhaps saparate under the same category, e.g. physics and chemistry are science lessons?

^hmm, ok it seems i have misinterperated ronnies post,
sorry I went of on a tangent.
After closley re-reading I understand ronnies post.
I was arguing that lots of modern architecture is arty but dosent serve its purpose well.

I've been looking at concept art lately, and some of the drawing were of buildings in the future. When I look at somethin like that I (personally) interpret it as art. I will find an example later and edit this post to link you to the site to show you what I mean.

there's architecture and there's architecture. my favorite's the kind of free form stuff that it mostly takes a medium like ferro-cement to do. although some of the stuff that appeared on college campuses in the 70s was pretty cool too. so is earth bermed and some of the 70s hippie 'woodbutchering'. but my favorite of all is stuff like in roger dean's illustrations, some of what antonio gaudi did, parc guell especially, some of my own concepts that i've found blender to be way better at then autocad, and especially especially, some of what's on the 'flying-concrete' homepage.

i don't much care for austentation, neither of mass nor of umgapotchkit detail or that post industrial deco crap. interesting wierd convoluted constructs, either deliberate, or defacto consiquesces of vernacular are where it's at. that and attention to transitional spaces, porches and porticoes, that sort of thing. belcony gardens too of course.

i think a lot of formalized, 'classical' architecture is mostly crap though, as are 'mcmansions' and tickey tackey in general as well. i think malls could be really creative if they had narrow gauge trolly stops inside of them instead of parking lots surrounding them, and those spaces that are parking lots now, turned into like japanese gardens instead.

well again, this is the sort of thing a lot of my own illustration is to try and illustrate. stuff i've got on elfwood, and vcl, and now on biorust.

(along with the stuff people have actually built where there isn't building codes telling them not to or to get an act of congress before they can, that there are examples of, as mentioned, on that 'flying-concrete' page)

You should post some of your work of these buildings you mentioned, Themnax. I am interested, and curious, to see them.

A wonderful harmonious essence of peace you have captured there, Themnax. They are uplifting and remind me of a computer game called LBA (Little Big Adventure), which didn't rely on wanton violence such as in games like GTA (Grand Theft Auto). There is far too much wanton violence in today's world, and I shall remedy that later tonight by having some wanton soup. Meantime thanks for the links. The art is very original and nothing like the pretentious crap that we normally get from so-called architects arriving at our reception desk every morning.

It's an old game, about 1994/5, but I'll see if I can find it and post a link. Graphics are still good, even by today's standards.

    Here's a little taster.

Why don't you think architecture is popular? Have you gone outside lately? See those buildings? Guess who designed them. Go ahead - I'll be really nice and give you 3 guesses.
