Is Apple (the computer company) hip or not?

just a brand name! all the hype's already slowly disappearing, especially with their sub-par releases in recent times...

^ yep. the only difference between apple and any other brand is that they have been more effective than most in manipulating the public

New to Apple and discovering that it's just another 'puter. With Jobs genius gone, wondering where things will go . . .

I worked with Apple and MAC computers for years.

They had great marketing and some good software, but were overpriced inferior machines.
The original MAC had no color and terrible sound.
The C64 had better graphics and sound, but a worse disk drive interface, the IBM ran better production software , and the Amiga was vastly superior to all the above.

Today an Apple v Windows computer is overpriced at almost double what comparable windows systems cost and Windows has a much greater number of software choices.
Almost any software, or its equivalent, offered by MAC is available for Windows; but if you want to run CADD programs you need a Windows system.

Most office systems run on Windows or Linux. Apple never could get business software together until much later. Indeed multitasking was unavailable for a long time on Macs.

And forget about upgrading your Mac. Best you could do was an expensive external SCSI drive for storage. Just like iPhones which you cannot upgrade, instead you must buy a new one.

Apple's been taking it's users for a long ride, gouging them, because they can.
