you know the reason your blood is red is because of teh same reasons rust is ;) iron and oxygen

unless your talkin about .. aluminium rust? which is white and doesnt pose a problem, or brass rust? which doesnt happen i dont think, what is your piece made of?

You should post a pic if you can. If it's just something you threw together from the hardware store, I'm sure you can be resourceful and fix it or make a new device. Reguardless of if you find from an internet forum full of druggies whether or not rust is harmful, do you really want to even worry about it and have your smoking device look all shabby? :p

I'm a welder for a living. Aluminum doesn't "rust", although it does oxidize just like many other things such as plastic, metal, etc. Rust is a slang term for iron oxide, which is what forms when iron comes in contact with oxygen. When aluminum oxidizes (comes in contact with oxygen) it forms a very thin protective barrier that actually protects the aluminum. So if his piece is rusting then its made of steel, and that would deffenetly not be my first choice for a bong, because its gets quite dirty and rusty. I weld the stuff all day and breath in fumes, but I still wouldnt want to be inhaling off a steel bong especially one with rust on it. Theres a reason everything in the food industy is made of stainless steel or aluminum.
