I am a musician in the Los Angeles, CA area. I have no clue what to do in terms of marketing and publicity. I don't have a bunch of money to spend and I hear that a lot of companies charge like 2-3K a month for marketing and publicity services, but if anyone knows of a more affordable company or person that can help me please let me know.

    Thanks

If you find one, let us know. If we find one, we'll let you know. Our group, actually duo at this point, living in the San Diego area and trying to break in. We're good by ourselves. but could do so much more. We need a drummer and maybe an extra guitar. Also, good publicity and exposure.

I would urge you to make your best attempt at learning what you can about self promotion in the music industry. There are several good books on the subject authored by industry insiders. Although I can't recall the titles, Barnes&Nobel has them in the music section (If your lucky).
Stuff like press releases and promo packages can be produced and distributed yourself if you know how. In the industry, Promotional material must be presented in the proper format.
Radio station managers and record company people can recognize instantly a hack promo package and will usually reject it without consideration.
Some of the other aspects of self promotion you may find repugnant as an artist, and so may better just be left to a promotional firm.
Lastly I must say my musical career was severely crippled by poor promo. Best of luck!

Hey guys. So I totally agree with the whole self-promotion thing; it's definitely cheaper. But for that extra push, there is this company my drummer was telling me about called lafamos. He did some business with them and he said they were good. I don't really know a lot about them, but you should still check them out.

I did a little bit more research on lafamos and they seem really cool. I called them up and they told me how they work with indie artists and get them out there. My band and I are considering having them promote and market our stuff. If you check them out, let me know what you think. I like have other opinions as well.
