Like nocturnal or cathemeral (that's sort of more random sleeping patterns - like a cat)? I am always changing mine. I have no idea what I am naturally (well, obviously all humans are naturally diurnal but.. I mean my natural, personal preference). Diurnalism seems to offer the advantage of better social prospects, including for financial gain such as jobs. The day is also quite pretty Nocturnalism is wonderfully peaceful. I love how quiet everything is. Wonderfully eerie and also beautiful in its own way. As somebody living in a houseshare, it is really nice to have solitude and peace and quiet for once! Cathemerality is liberating, I find. No rules, no restrictions, just sleep when you want and wake when you want. Possibly my favourite I suppose the only other main possibilities are like sloppy/pseudo -diurnalism or sloppy/pseudo -nocturnalism. So you roughly keep to that system, but frequently are, for example, up late. So, how about you guys? ^_^
the traditional chinese medicine perspective is that certain hours of the day are good for certain activities. Yin is at its peak between 11pm-1am, so it is ideal to be asleep during those hours, or to meditate. The night is generally the best time to sleep/ be inactive One should sleep more during the winter time.
The only problem I have with being up at weird times it the risk of waking housemates! I am very quiet and for this reason try not to slip into unusual sleeping patterns as often as I'd like. However, I swear that some people sleep so lightly! I sleep through the chaos of the day in a houseshare... frequently!
I have obligations so I have to get up early. Well, I show up to work between 2-3 hours after everyone else but either way I have to show up. Then I just have to grind twice as hard in half the time. But I stay up late, I love the night. It's 'my' time so to speak.
i need to keep a fairly regular sleep schedule or i get cranky very quickly. ideal sleep hours would be about 1 to 10am, although i generally have to be up by 8 or 9 for work, so i tend to go to bed and wake up an hour or two earlier than my ideal.
i sleep much like cats, with very little real pattern. one time of day or night is much the same as another. only the inconvenience of stores being closed and public transportation running less often or not at all at certain times, differentiates one time of day from another. that and the sun being up or not. but the latter does not affect my sleeping and waking. i like the day because of the sun and being able to see nature. but i also like the night, because of the night sky and the quite, after everyone else finally does go to bed. i can create a pattern and my internal clock will fall into it. mostly i only do this if i have a schedule to keep and a reason to do so. if i am living where there are no other human persons with their noise and distractions, i will often fallow the sun, getting up as early as it does. but this is a rare and precious circumstance. at my age and refusal to impoverish myself further by indenturing myself to a vehicle, i am pretty much stuck in cities, where the best times begin well after midnight, are interrupted when people get up to go to work, and again resume while they are away working. now that i am living in a house where there are cats, my sleeping and waking is also influenced by when they want to eat or play and then when they are willing to curl up somewhere and be quiet.
this is so much like me! I joked with my friends that I didn't even notice that the days were getting shorter for quite some time, because all I noticed was that sometimes it was light, sometimes it was dark, and I was following the clock so little that I had no idea the dark hours were increasing! It was wonderfully liberating, I love it
I don't usually have to be at work until 10 so I usually go to sleep anywhere between 12-2am and sleep until about 8:30. I love the night too. I feel like if I'm in bed before midnight I might be missing out on something. What I'd be missing? I'm not sure but unless I'm dead tired I don't even think about sleep before midnight.
