I quit shampoo for about 4 months last summer and it ws awesome, but I find it doesn't work as well in the city. I really want to find a good way to quit shampoo thouh. I'm fucking sick of it. How should I go about quitting shampoo and not looking too greasy for the first coulpe weeks?
Baking soda, apple cider vinegar. Or just cut your hair really short. I haven't used shampoo regularly in years. Now I use a tiny bit every month or two, but only when my hair is getting longer. I tend to keep it short these days, so I barely need it.
no no no its got to be easy right. i havent used shampoo in years, fuck all those chemicals. i use natural coconut soap that i get for 25 cents a bar and they last a long time too. great for washing hair too, it lathers up so good! omg i love it
I actually use the castile soap I use on my body to wash my hair. It works better than shampoo and doesn't dry my hair out.
What he said. I wash with shampoo every other day. I enjoy that clean feeling it provides me. Edited to add: If it was so amazing to be shampoo free, for whatever reason, why did you start using shampoo again?
Not bald but I am considering getting a haircut. Most likely let it get millimetered (sp ) at first. But to be fair I am considering this for over a year already
Well, that was all I wanted to cut  I just realize once I cut it, it is really gone Hedge is not the only one who is a bit overly attached to his long hair. I probably feel like Samson for over a week, then I just get in an identity crisis (like hedgeclipper is already starting)
He didn't tell him to cut it, he just gave a suggestion of a way to not use shampoo and not get greasy.
Just by imaging myself in his position. It's not like he's listening to me anyway (or has to do what I say) If I think he should do that that's how I can tell it! I do have experience with getting a haircut by the way, just not recent. Also, I don't think I even told him he should actually shave it, I merely said it would do the trick in regards to quitting shampoo
you said shave your head! lol you cant just say whatever you want followed by , "no disrespect" lolol what was that movie? he obviously wants to keep his hair now is apparent. so, new suggestions are welcome. ill just reiterate my response of using bar soap for body and hair =]
How about just find a good organic, natural shampoo that doesn't have all the shitty ingredients most shampoos do? I've heard it's healthier to just wash every other day but I just don't like the feel of my hair when I skip even just one day of shampooing.. I'm happy with the organic shampoo I'm using now. so you just didn't wash your hair for four months? Did you just rinse it with water when bathing? you didn't give a lot of info
I quit commercial shampoo in early October. I was using baking soda with an apple cider vinegar rinse, but after about 6 weeks of scalp detox, I bought an all-natural shampoo bar from lovelyxmalia (PM her if you're interested, I don't know how often she checks HF, but she's around), and I've been using that with the ACV rinse. I got really bad dandruff on the baking soda, I'll be completely honest, it dried the hell out of my scalp. The shampoo bar is starting to turn that around. I wash my hair once a week, but I've been doing that since I was using "real" shampoo anyway. As far as advice on getting through the first couple weeks without an over-production of oil, your scalp has to adjust to your new routine so it's normal to have oily hair the first little while. Do some research on the various methods of "no-poo" hair washing before you decide which is best for you. I read a white vinegar rinse is better for oily hair, but white vinegar stinks up my hair waaaay more than apple cider vinegar. There are methods using honey amongst other things, you might have to play around til you find one that works for you. My hair has been so much healthier since I quit shampoo, so I can definitely say I don't plan on going back.
Since I've stopped using shampoo, I spend more time on my hair in the shower than I did before. Have to really make sure to scrub everything when you don't have any soap!
