I was just wondering if anyone else in this little community has read and enjoyed stephen king's dark tower series? i effin love those books. i picked the first book of the series "the gunslinger" for a long road trip on a whim without reading any of stephen kings books or hearing anything about the dark tower and i finished the book in a day and the series had me hooked from then on. the overall story is so original and mysterious throughout the whole thing that it just keeps you begging for more. if any of you havn't read these books pick up the gunslinger and give it a try, you won't regret it.
Gahhh, I'm trying to find my dad's first one. He had 'em all, but I just can't find the first one. And I've heard King doesn't really write like this normally, so I'd really like to see what it's all about. So, yeah, have you read all of them?
I absolutely love these books, each one is a masterpiece. Every book seems so different, they're absolutley amazing i cant stop myself from going back to them.
yup, read em' all. just a warning tho, most people don't read the rest of the series after they've read the first one because it doesn't explain much and it's slower than the rest of the series. so at least give 1-3 a chance and if you aren't in love with the series, i don't know whats wrong with you. yah, i've read a good many of king's other books and this series is very different from his other works, although there are a lot of parallel's between the various books that connect to the series.
These are my favorite books ever. They are a large part of why I'm on the internet several hours (or more) a day.
Yes, I am a junkie too. I've read the whole series several times(the gunslinger more like 20-25 times), I collect King books, and I help mod at a large Dark Tower site.
The dark tower is one of the best series I've ever read.. read all 7 at least 4 times, probably time I did again I love the concept, the world King creates, it's amazing. Not too big a fan of his other work (apart from The Stand), but this is a total departure and I love it.
i thought that way about "the gunslinger" at first. but when i went back and re-read them, it's actually probably one of my favorite books in the series. nothing tops wizard and glass though. i waited three books just to find out a SHRED of knowledge about Roland's past, so i loved every page of it. *sigh* those books are so good. stephen king proves he is a writer worthy of praise with these. i wish the series went on forever. but i guess it does...
i jsut finished wizard and glass. i fuckin LOVED the first one. the second one was a littel slow but still damn good and the third one i though was fantastic. but i didnt really like the 4th. it was a romance novel and that jsut kinda pissed me off... the end of it was awesome but the first... 450 pages... pretty much torture to me. it explained a lot, i know, but it jsut wasnt exiting what so ever. im really lookin forward to finishing the series
i read one thru 3 and took a break for a while. im trying to get thru these two carlos castaneda books as fast as possible because i wanna be taken away to mid-world once more. I really want to write some sort of epic saga like The Dark Tower books. I think im just going to emerse myself fully in these books once i finish the previously mentioned. i just wanna be a writer like King so bad i cant stand it.
Ahh, hile bookslingers. Long days and pleasant nights, sai. Yea, I'm a Dark Tower nerd... how could you tell?
I read all the books, buying and reading each one as soon as they were released. Having read them this way over the 20 or so span of years that it took King to finish the series, I must say I loved the books. Then last year I decided to re-visit the story via audiobook and absorb the whole epic saga in one straight shoot without any breaks between volumes. I have to admit that the second time through was not nearly as pleasurable. Having listened to the whole series in succession, it seemed like there were just so many inconsistencies and plot holes between the different volumes that went largely unnoticeable when I read the books the first time with large (multi year) breaks in-between. Also the last two volumes seemed to fall completely flat for me the second time around, not to mention the ending which could very well be the the biggest plot hole in history.
