All throughout Highschool Ive wanted to work to protect our environment. I am about to go into the second semester of college up in VT at Johnson State. I really dont know what concentration to go into to (Natural Resource management, politics, etc.. there are alot to choose from). If anyone who works in the field could explain what they actually do that would be great and what concentration they took. For the E-sci Majors (and otheres) out there, where are you at and how is your school? Im thinking of tranferring and though i would love to transfer to UVM, i dont think i could afford it. It would be great to have some recomendations, thanks all, peace - chris
I am an environmental Studies major with a concentration in political science. The difference between environmental studies and environmental science is that I will get a B.A. instead of a B.S. and my concentration is in the arts instead of science. I go to University of Toledo in Ohio. It has a progressive environmental program, but it is uber conservative...which I'm not too keen to. I'm a senior and hope to maybe run my own non-profit organization dedicated to collaborating the environmental organizations so they are working for a larger cause one day. Who knows? I'm sort of leaving my options open. Kudos for you for choosing to work for the environment! PM if you have any questions you think I might be able to answer
I don't know what you're intrested in but I started an Environmental course with a science focus in Australia and found myself really disillusioned, I quit in about three weeks. The biggest problems with the envornment are politics, business and the behaviour of ordinary people, and this is where we should be making our mark. But this is not to say scientists and tinkerers are not valuable. Do you wan't to be influential or do you want to be inventive? think about that.
The only way to really make the difference in the environment is if you try to change it through legislation... that's the only way you can get ANYTHING done anymore.
