hello there i am totally new and this is my very first thread, lol got to start somewhere, anyway i have been a drummer for about a year and my influences have got to be probably mitch mitchell from the jimi hendrix experience, john densmore from the doors, and possibly john bonham. who are your main influences?
I'm a guitarist, but I'd LOVE to take up drumming. If that chance ever occurs, my influences would be Bonzo, John Densmore, Ringo Starr, Keith Moon, etc....
i am a drummer of about 4 or 5 years....and my main influence is john bonham.....i idolize him....but other influences would be keith moon, buddy rich, neil peart, mitch from the experience, ginger baker, and i can go on and on, coz drumming is what i live my life by
I wanna start playing the drums soon. I'm on my way though...picked up a practice pad on a tripod and some sticks. After I get my sticking down pretty good I might buy a mini-practice electronic drum kit. That'll help me with the 4-way coordination bit. They're like $300 at the local music shop. Then someday in the future I'll either A) Not be living in an apartment and be able to play an acoustic kit or B) Save up enough for a good electronic set
i've found this really cool site for drum rudimentals and stuff, if u haven't already seen it go to http://www.vicfirth.com/education/rudiments.html
Erm........I'd probably have John Bonham Mitch Mitchell Ginger Baker Ringo Starr Nick mason Ian Paice Bill Bruford And Man More But I cant really think at the moment
Well I only started a very short time ago, so since the only tab I can play along to reasonably is Paranoid by Black Sabbath, I'd say Bill Ward (confession: I had to look up that name while writing this reply). I'm not yet experienced enough to be influenced by, but certainly idolise: Hellhammer (Mayhem and countless other bands) Proscriptor (Absu) Nicholas Barker (Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir) Frost (Satyricon and countless other bands) All those for sheer speed and incredible smoothness and tightness at high speeds. Satyricon did this cover of Sarcofago's song I.N.R.I. with Frost blasting at 251 beats per minute (now I don't know how one can know exactly how many beats per minute you're doing but I do know that's one of the fastest songs in musical history - you should download it!)
Yeah, I'm also working with one of those. No money, room or isolation enough for the real deal. But it's better than nothing, right?
Yeah I guess it's good for getting your sticking down, but the thing I'm mostly concerned about is getting down my hand/foot coordination. I'm thinking about setting up some dowel rods and phone books and shit around the thing to simulate multiple targets...lol.
Ok, Bonham, Densemore, Ringo all of those guys are great, but have not any of you l heard of the one....The only.....Danny Carey?
Drummers? *raises hand* I've been playing for 13 years, but half that time was mostly devoted to classical percussion and other stuff (chamber-percussion setups, mallet instruments, tabla, various other hand drums). I used to be into the classic/psych drummers a lot (Bonham, Densmore, Mitchell, Ian Paice, Bill Kreutzmann, etc.) and prog rock (Bill Bruford, Phil Collins, Neil Peart, etc.) Traces of their combined influence remain, but nowadays I'm more into: Billy Higgins Jack DeJohnette Jaki Liebezeit (Can) Billy Martin (MMW) Keith Ackerman (Atomic Bitchwax) Le Quan Ninh Barry Altschul Daniel Denis (Univers Zero) Chris Cutler (Henry Cow)
