Fuck no I wouldn't recommend it. They put me on it for social anxiety like half a year ago. I'm now supposed to be taking pristiq and abilify but I just stack em up in my med cabinet. Don't take any anti depressants, they fuck with your head too much. I'm only there for benzos and adderall. The withdrawals are a bitch though.
Just started taking 10mg Lexapro a month ago. I noticed an INSTANT change in my mood and energy level. All for the better. I have fewer panic attacks, feel alright mostly all the time, I actually leave my house now (and I was too depressed to before). I don't emotionally eat anymore (I lost 10 lbs). Just feel better and make better decisions for myself. I noticed immediately that situations that used to really make my blood boil and physically angry just don't bother me anymore.
I noticed the same when I took citolopram for anxiety and depression, which I believe is the same thing as lexaore (I'm from the UK). The effects were almost instant, later that same day, and I felt great and balanced and cool. Problems came later on though as it completely killed my sex drive and ability to feel sexual pleasure at all. So I tried to discontinue it and straight away - BOOM! I was in a hellish nightmare of confusion, irritability and hopelessness. My sex drive did come back though, but now I was wanking retard (no female would want me as I was then). So for ten years I was on and off, trying to wean off them whilst trying to keep my head right. I'm off them now though but by God what a struggle it was. I basically lost ten years of my life in fog and confusion and desperation cos of that shite. Like it's said in Total Recall: "Don't fuck with your brain; it aint worth it". I do however recommend psychodelics, like magic mushrooms or even magic truffles. These can turn your life around and help you begin a new journey of self discovery and wonder. Fuck prescribed drugs, nature already has it all figured out.
Do you think the instant change was due to the medication or the placebo effect? Because I'm fairly certain that most anti-depressant medications take a few weeks to kick in for most people.
Considering my sex life is more or less over,I'm seriously considering getting back on citalopram,if it makes me feel better and helps me to function.
I was on Lexapro for awhile in combination with benzos I feel it had limited helpfullness for me personally. With you're level of anxiety and you're physiology it may be more helpful for you. I have been on a half dozen or so similar medications, so far the one im currently on which works best for me is Duloxetine an SNRI previously I was mostly prescribed ssri. Keep in mind our individual physiology is likely very different not to mention genetic factors and all the other variables that come into effect. Its really trail and error for these medicines. Unfortunately as someone mentioned previously it often takes a month for blood serum levels to reach what there supposed to(it depends on the medicine of course) so disregard side effects unless they are very serious (in which case contact you're doctor immediately) the first two weeks, and give it a fair shot would be my advice.
