Not sure if this is the best forum for this thread, but here goes anyway! Ants are bizarre, scary, everywhere, possibly an alien entity, and seemingly an essential part of the earth's ecosystems. Perhaps they just creep you out! We all overlook ants but they are actually incredibly intelligent, are super strong and communicate seemingly with intelligence! So it shouldn't be surprising that ants have built mega-cities underground, right? Check out this picture of an ant colony after being filled with tons of concrete, then being exposed by men with shovels digging it out of the ground. Here's a closeup, sorry it's so blurry. You can clearly see the rooms connected by pathways in an amazing web. Read more about this: Scientists pumped tonnes of cement into abandoned ant hill and discovered a mega-city in the earth
I like the pic of the red fire ant with stinger and poison drop at the end! I'm more afraid of scorpions and centipedes.
Christina would be in her glory at that anthill, she loves ants almost as much as spiders. When she was about 3 years old, she went quiet one day when it was snowing and kept walking up and down the stairs. When I investigated, she told me that all the little spiders (Ants) were cold, so she was putting them to bed to keep them warm. She was not stupid. She was putting them in our bed rather than hers. In the evening when she started looking for them, Jane told her that when it got warmer, she had put them back outside again. She forgot to mention that she had used the bug spray and swept them up,
I was threatened by a huge ant in Australia. There are these huge termite mounds all over the place. In addition to psychedelic frogs and birds, platypuses, killer jellies - some are invisible, the usual crocs and snakes, monster 6 ft wide clams, roos everywhere, rabbits too. Amazing fauna, best beaches and a tiny barrier reef.
