Last night I was talking with my husband and he brought up a VERY good point while we were watching the news. In January there were 40 American deaths fighting the war in Iraq. Some months we have the same amount of deaths/murders in Detroit Michigan. http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=398411 Murders don't just happen in Detroit there all over the place in the USA. So why are we not protesting the murders right here in our own Country? We have war going on right here in our own Country. Why are we not protesting the murders going on right here, right now? Let me clarify that I am not against the war. I am all for eliminating the terrorists. How else are we going to find them? Murderers/Terrorist do not belong in this world. That is my opinion.
I am not against going over to Iraq to help save their country and wipe out the terrorist. I do think however we need to look at the wars going on right here in our own Country and eliminate the people that are murdering and terrorizing our own people. Again, my opinion.
YES SIR!!!!!!!! Couldnt have worded that better!! I agree with this and once a reporter asked me WHY ARE YOU HERE MARCHING TODAY?? I told him (to be as simple and understandable as possible) we needed to worry bout our own shit before we go out and blow up other peoples shit!!
you can't really compare a citizen killing another citizen randomly to the organized calculated murder of thousands of people just for being born in that particular country. Something like that would be equivalent to the army coming into your neighborhood, raiding your house and all of your neighbors homes and then dropping 2 or 3 bombs over it just because they heard there MIGHT be a terrorist hiding out in one of them. Everyone innocent dies as well....but hey, at least that big bad terrorist guy can't stay there now. And just to clear something.....the 9/11 terrorists weren't even from Iraq....15 out of the 19 hijackers were from saudia arabia and there is apparently a money trail linking them, but Bush is still good friends with Saudi Arabia. We won't get into that now though. Thats for the politics forum
a terrorist is just a person pissed off so much that they have decided to take action on their beliefs... the united states government is full of terrorists and murderers... it is impossible to stop terrorism, just like its impossible to stop drugs... terrorism is a state of mind, a way 4 life... its not something you can stop... its inthe hearts and will of humans... if you kill all the "terrorists" right now, there will be just as many in a few years later.. a terrorist is just a word the government puts on someone to j ustify their death. but indeed, we should be working a lot more harder stopping the deaths in our own country, than going to a foreign country and dabbling in their own affairs and murdering their men women and children.. biggest terrorist organization in existance today: the CIA.
im assuming you dont live in the united states... because if you did, you would know that half of your taxes go to weapons to murder people
"a terrorist is just a word the government puts on someone to j ustify their death." I agree with that completely, but I think that there really are terrorists out there as well. I don't think that it's the people in afghanistan or Iraq...those people are just shooting back at the monsters who invade their country. I think saddam USED to be, but he was only able to carry out his deeds because the US gave him the means to do so. I think bush is a terrorist....in the way that he uses this "terrorists are gonna get us" crap in order to manipulate the average citizen into believing that it's okay to give up rights and bomb children, as long as we get the bad guy. Then there's also the fact that he's there making the US mil. go out and do that shit, blowing up children and what-not.....doing the same exact shit we're supposed to be worried about "THEM" doing.
LOL!!!! I really don't want to be bombing anyone however certain things I just do not understand like why we protest war but we are not protesting the murdering that is going on right here in our own Country. I don't want my tax dollars taking care of murderers in our prisions. I appreciate the responses. I like to hear other peoples opinions as long as no one gets upset with anyone for voicing theirs. You are right Moonshyne, this does belong in the polictical forum however I don't really talk to anyone over there. I was afraid I would get beaten posting this over there. This was my random thought for today.
Now I have to disagree with you Laura - Sorry. We should encourage people from Detroit to kill one another - have you ever heard Kid Rock sing or Marshall Mathers rap or any of that Motown crap or have you ever been to a Tigers' game? The federal government should distribute handguns in the schools, and the Michigan governor should declare every night Hell Night in Detroit. Dick Butkus once said: "I hate the Detroit Lions; I hate everyone from the head coach to the waterboy, and every motherfucker in that whole fucked-up town should be shot." Now, how can you disagree with the best middle linebacker EVER, and most gentlemanly of all gentleman? How ....?
I'll have to get back to you on why I might disagree with the linebacker. lol I have children in the schools. They are my heart. I would be beyond repair if anything ever happened to them, like being shot at. That is what I would say has to be one of the worst nightmares a mother could have.... It's mine. Ps. I have never listened to Kid Rock or Marshall Mathers. lol I normally listen to the Grateful Dead.
pacificst are the only true patriots this is by an order of magnitude not nearly as simple a though as it sounds but i stand by its 100% accuracy =^^= .../\...
It can also be argued that this new Iraq war has increased the numbers of Terrorists. The popular world view is that this war was unjustified. I think that we can't compare the way we're currently waging war on terrorism vs. murders here at home. We use our police force to protect us here at home, and we use our army to protect us abroad. Our understanding of why terrorists want to be terrorists should be as complex as why people commit crime. We can't declare martial law on Souteast DC every night because of the crime there, it'd create more problems than solutions. We can't wage war on Muslim countries around the world, regardless of whether or not the terrorists who want to attack us are being generated there. We simply can't win that war. Think of it like this: how would fighting poverty and finding a way to get all the guns off the street, here at home, help with the murder rate... I think through correct foreign policy, we can change the way those countries (and the terrorists in them) look at us. That remains to be seen, though. If it's truly a religious war, my entire opinion changes.
I appreciate what you have had to say. What you have said makes sense to me and your right that I should not compare the two.
One thing that contributed to me posting this topic this morning was I watched Gangs Of New York last night. Gruesome movie. I don't like watching blood and terror like that. Give me a Woody Allen film or some Python. The only reason we watched it was because someone lent it to us and we thought we'd check it out.
Actually I think we did see it years ago but I don't remember much of it. Actually I can watch movies over and over and there is always a part or a section, sometimes even the entire movie I don't remember.
