Gaza conflict spreads to Europe with Jews attacked Jan 6 10:50 AM US/Eastern By JOHN LEICESTER Associated Press Writer http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1 The exterior of a synagogue is seen in Toulouse, southwestern France Tuesday... A police car is parked in front of the synagogue in Toulouse, southwestern... PARIS (AP) - Signs are mounting that the conflict in Gaza is starting to spill over into violence in Europe's towns and cities, with assaults against Jews and arson attacks on Jewish congregations in France, Sweden and Britain. Assailants rammed a burning car into the gates of a synagogue in Toulouse, in southwest France, on Monday night. A Jewish congregation in Helsingborg, in southern Sweden, also was attacked Monday night by someone who "broke a window and threw in something that was burning," said police spokesman Leif Nilsson. Neighbors alerted rescue services before the fire took hold. Someone also started a blaze outside the premises last week. And on Sunday slogans including "murderers ... You broke the cease-fire" and "don't subject Palestine to ethnic cleansing" were daubed on Israel's embassy in Stockholm. In Denmark, a 27-year-old Dane born in Lebanon of Palestinian parents is alleged to have injured two young Israelis last week, opening fire with a handgun in a shooting that police suspect could be linked to the Gaza crisis. France has Western Europe's largest Jewish and Muslim communities and a history of anti-Semitic violence flaring when tensions in the Middle East are high. In 2002, some 2,300 Jews left France for Israel because they felt unsafe. President Nicolas Sarkozy warned in a statement Tuesday that France would not tolerate violence linked to the Gaza crisis. A day earlier, his interior minister said she was concerned about the prospect of contagion and met with the heads of the two main Muslim and Jewish groups and police officials to stress the need to "preserve national unity." Damage to the synagogue in Toulouse was limited to a blackened gate, and there were no injuries even though a rabbi was giving a course to adults inside, authorities said. They said unlighted gasoline bombs were also found in a car nearby and in the synagogue's yard. A local Jewish leader, Armand Partouche, said he believed the assailants had planned to torch the synagogue, but fled when the building's alarm went off. "It could have been very, very serious," Partouche said in a telephone interview. "There were people inside; there could have been deaths." He said Jewish leaders are asking Toulouse authorities for reinforced security for the city's synagogues. "We really fear that anti-Semitism will spring up again and that the current conflict will be transposed to our beautiful French republic," he said. In Britain, the Community Security Trust, a Jewish defense group, said it had seen a rise in anti-Semitic incidents since the start of Israel's offensive against Gaza. The group said it had recorded 20-25 incidents across the country in the past week that it believed were connected with Gaza, including an arson attempt on a synagogue in north London on Sunday. London police are investigating the attack, in which suspects splashed flammable liquid on the door and set it on fire. Community Security Trust spokesman Mark Gardner said that in another incident last week a gang of 15-20 youths walked along the main street in Golders Green, a largely Jewish neighborhood in north London, shouting "Jew" and "Free Palestine" at passers-by. "It could get worse," Gardner said. "We tend to see these things happen in waves." The government in Belgium on Tuesday ordered police in Antwerp and Brussels to be on increased alert after recent pro-Palestinian protests ended in violence and dozens of arrests. Police said burning rags were shoved through the mailbox of a Jewish home in Antwerp last weekend. Damage was limited and no arrests were made. In the Danish shooting, one Israeli man was shot in the arm and another in the leg as they were selling hair care products in a shopping mall. Eli Ruvio, who owns the company that operated the stands, said his employees have been harassed by Muslim youths since they set up three kiosks in the shopping center in August. "They kept cursing and shouting at us," Ruvio told The Associated Press. He added that the Muslim youths also threw mud and firecrackers at the employees and spat at them. Ruvio recalled an episode Dec. 27 when some of the youths shouted "slaughter all the Jews." "I told my employees not to speak in Hebrew and lie about where they come from, they should say there were from Spain or somewhere else. If people ask you where you are from, never say you're from Israel," he said.
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3651172,00.html Gaza op prompts wave of anti-Semitism in Belgium Protests against Israeli operation in Gaza give rise to violent attacks against Jews across country. Jews now live in fear here, says Jewish Agency envoy in Antwerp Yael Levy Published: 01.06.09, 04:35 Anti-Semitism is rearing its head in Belgium as protests against the Israeli military operation in Gaza have led to violent attacks against Jews. A Molotov cocktail was thrown at the liberal synagogue in Brussels on Monday. No injuries were reported, but the building sustained damage. "Things are heating up here in Belgium," said Jewish Agency and Bnei Akiva envoy in Antwerp Meir Vachotzker. "When the fighting in Gaza started, a Molotov cocktail and a rock were hurled at a synagogue in Charlerois and caused damage." On Saturday unknown assailants attempted to torch the house of a Jewish family in Antwerp. An eyewitness who resides nearby alerted the police to the place and they managed to extinguish the flames before the house caught fire. Saturday also saw large demonstrations by Muslims and left-wing activists against Israel and in support of Hamas. Vachotzker said that the protesters set Israeli flags aflame, burned a Chabad menorah and sprayed swastikas and hate graffiti on Jewish-owned shops. The police arrested some 50 rioters. The Jewish community in the country is planning a large demonstration n support of Israel and the IDF this coming Wednesday. On Sunday evening some 600 people – both religious and secular – convened at Antwerp's big synagogue to show solidarity with the soldiers in Gaza. According to Vachotzker, Belgium's Jews have been living in fear since the operation started. "Vandalizing stores has become a trend. Some of the public may support Israel, but they don't show it. There are many concerns, mainly security ones, involved in holding pro-Israel rallies. We’ve received security instructions, told to be more alert…and to watch ourselves especially after nightfall.
Antwerp: Arab riots, Jewish neighborhood sealed (UPDATED) Antwerp: Arab riots, Jewish neighborhood sealed Update: Antwerp: AEL riots + Video ---- How do you protest violence against a civilian population? Attack a civilian population, of course. These riots were expected, given the massive incitement that accompanied the organization of the demonstrations. ---- The demonstration that the Arab European League (AEL) in Borgerhout (Antwerp) organized against the bombardments of the Gaza Strip, has gotten completely out of hand. After the protest disbanded the demonstrators marched towards the Jewish neighborhood in Antwerp, clashing with the police. In particular car windows suffered, but also trams and buses were attacked. The AEL held a protest action in the Kerkstraat in Borgerhout from 2pm. The protesters demanded the immediate suspension of the bombardments of the Gaza Strip and of the violence against the civilian population. Already during the demonstration in Borgerhout there were heated moments here and there. The situation truly got out of hand when the demonstration disbanded at about 3:15pm. A group of protesters then marched towards the Jewish neighborhood in Antwerp. The police had completely closed off the neighborhood upon which started a cat-and-mouse game. The situation threatened to get out of hand and at about 3:25pm the police arrived with more manpower in order to drive out the protesters. At about 4pm the riots moved again to Borgerhout, in the area of the Turnhoutsebaan. The protesters caused much damage, in particular to car windows but also trams and basses were attacked. The De Lijn bus company is diverting all buses and trums on the Turnhoutsebaan-Carnotstraat-Rooseveltplaats route. ------- Many Jews don't dare anymore to go out on the streets in the area of the demonstrators. They fear vandalism and violence. An internal SMS service of the Jewish community of Antwerp warns Jews to avoid the areas of the Turnhoutsebaan and the Diamantwijk, reports Michael Freilich of the Jewish newspaper Joods Actueel. "The protesters must realize that Antwerp Jews are also Flemish and not Israeli soldiers. They have nothing to do with what is currently happening in the Gaza Strip," says Freilich. According to him the the Jewish community fears that the situation can escalate. "We haven't seen anything like this since 2003, when it also got out of hand," says the chief editor of the Jewish monthly. There's currently no response from politicians, but Freilich's phone is getting many calls from anxious people who don't know what to do. During today's demonstration damage was done, also in the Antwerp Diamantwijk (Diamond Center) where many Jews live and work. Today there is no activity in the sector, according to Freilich. Most shops are closed. Meanwhile the riots of isolated groups of protesters moved to Borgerhout and the Turnhoutsebaan area. The police is out in force. There's also an issue of the Hamas flags which were present in the demonstration in Brussels for the suspension of the bombardments on the Gaza Strip . According to Freilich the green flag with the white text of Hamas is a banned symbol in Belgium of a terrorist organization. "Everybody has a right to express his opinion," says Freilich. "We as a community also oppose violence, although the side-comment must be made that everything began by the rocket attacks of Hamas on Israel. Various protesters in Brussels held the famous Hamas flag. The Jewish community is shocked that this is allowed. "Hamas is and officially continues to be a not-allowed organization of terrorists," says Freilich. He doesn't understand how the organizers of the protest march allowed the symbol. "11.11.11 [one of the organizers] should do something against it. For that matter it's also striking that the protesters protest against violence towards the Palestinians, but that the suffering of the Israelis is not mentioned." Sources: HLN 1, 2 (Dutch)
This needs to happen. The people of Israel need to made plain to them that their government is endangering all Israelis by this action. Not just Israelis, but the entire world is nervous about Israel now. Israel is a sitting duck for a terrorist strike of some kind, with large loss of life. Of course, this will be spun as a sign for all Jews to band together and rachet up the fighting even more. The next step is a boycott and embargo of all Israeli products and services, just like what we did to South Africa. Choke the population till they force a change in their government. x
This is beyond disgusting. What do these people have to do with the situation in Israel? This only proves that antisemitism still exists in full force.
It's a global stage. That's what it's got to do with the situation. We've got on site reporters, photographers and camera crews, with global distribution of the images and information coming forth. People of the world - no matter which side - are going to react to this infomation. That's what it has to do with it. And maybe I'm dumb, but can't I oppose what Isreal has done to the Palestinians without being anti-semitic?
I noted in the articles mention of English Jews, Danish Jews, French Jews and Flemish Jews being attacked but no mention of Israelis. If the Jews are not a people why are they all responsible for the actions of Israel, an independant nation? I has been said by those who support the actions of Hamas that this is not an issue of religion. This is about the fair treatment of Palestinians by Israel and the wish to live peacefully together? Why then do supporters of Hamas attack Jews throughout Europe? Why does Xenon say this has to happen to the Jews of Europe so the people of Israel can see what their government is doing to Israelis. This has nothing to do with Anti-Semitism but jews, regardless of nationality are being attacked? At least we now know where Xenon stands on the issue of Jews. The Jews are being attacked in Europe because they are the "People of Israel".
You don't know what anti-semitism is yet. The longer Israel spends whacking a hornet's nest, the more likely of a swarm developing. Jews around the world are now in danger because of the narrow mindedness that exists in the general populations. You're fixing to see a huge surge in anti Jewish sentiment. Because of zionism. Because zionism needs enemies to survive, it creates them in petri dishes for later use. Just ask the neighbors around Israel. x
"If the Jews are not a people why are they all responsible for the actions of Israel, an independant nation?" It's called democracy. Israel proclaims itself a "Jewish" state. That means this belongs in the lap of Israeli Jews, does it not? They hold the power there. Just as we Americans are responsible for the wrongdoings of the United States. One of those has been the unquestioned support of Israel. Change is closer now. But the real show is just fixing to start. Seatbelts on. Trays in an upright position. x
Posted by Xenon 01/01/09 "The only future Israel has is where everyone is treated as an equal. The idea of Jew or Muslim must never enter the equation. Israeli. That's all anybody needs to call themselves." Posted by Xenon 05/01/09 "You don't know what anti-semitism is yet. The longer Israel spends whacking a hornet's nest, the more likely of a swarm developing. Jews around the world are now in danger because of the narrow mindedness that exists in the general populations. You're fixing to see a huge surge in anti Jewish sentiment." Well Xenon? Is it about religion or not?
Jews being attacked in Antwerp has what to do with Democracy in Israel? I doubt they get a vote on Israeli military policy. The reason that these demonstrations turn into riots is that many Muslims hate Jews, wherever they live, and will attack innocent civilian populations because they use fear as a tool. I think the reaction of Hamas supporters in Europe strengthen Israel's position that there will never be peace in Israel unless the Jewish people maintain their majority.
I did take care to mention the small minded masses. They don't make the differential dissection that I do. I know zionism only affects a small number of Jews. But because zionism is so powerful, it's actions are automatically seen by people as an action "for" Jews, because it is the main mouthpiece for Israel. Islamophobia has gripped the world for the past 7 years plus. Jewphobia will come around surely as fall turns to winter. Non zionist Jews have been too silent for too long, and now this thing comes to knock on your door soon. It is attracted to indifference. x
Hell, I refuse to respond to any of Xerox's comments because he's a fucking anti-semite and it's disgusting. How fucking dare you say that these innocent people, that have nothing to do with Israel other than the fact that they are Jews or potentially citizens, deserve to be attacked? Honestly, I hope that some Al-Quaida guy attacks you for the mere reason that you're American. Hell, I hope that a Hamas fighter attacks you for the mere reason that you're American, how ironic would it be for you to be attacked by one of them after you so passionately defend them? This is a clear example of anti-semites using this situation as an excuse to show their true colours and cause havoc. It'd disgusting. I have nothing against the protests, no matter how dumb they are... since they are peaceful... but the attacks are horrible. These people should be shot, and I'm as serious as I can ever get when I say this. You don't see Israelis attacking Arabs outside of Israel. You've never seen Israelis randomly attacking Arabs outside of Israel, and you never will. That is because we have nothing against Arabs, or Palestinians for the matter... while these people outwardly hate Jews. This is why we have Israel, so that we could escape that kind of hideous persecution. The holocaust only happened 40 odd years ago. Think about it.
And for the public record, Israelis don't attack Arabs "outside" of Israel because they know they'd never get away with it. Israel gives them permission to hate. On Israeli soil. Because Israel is a racist apartheid state. x
Small minded masses? You can't just discount these actions against Jews in Europe as being the work of the small minded masses! You show not the least empathy. "Differential dissection"? What the hell does that mean? I googled it. Closest thing I came up with has to do with torturing lab rats. Enough said. The Zionist conspiracy? Get over it and man up. Your Zionist conspiracy theory is nothing more than a convenient scapegoat for you own lack of success. I know and love many Jewish people and I agree some are tremendously wealthy. Many yeild great power in the economy. For the most part they are successful. Lots of Lawyers, Doctors, many work in investments. That's because most I know care a lot about education. They have very close families and they encourage success in their children. Most of my friends are very generous people and not racist like say. The jews I know do not deserve to be attacked for their faith. The Jews are what 14 million in a world of 6 Billion. Why not take care of your own and stop worrying what the Jews have done to you. I just looked it up, in 1900 there were 11.2 million Jews. Now there are under 14 million. The worlds population quadrupled and the Jewish population grew by 2 million. Get over it. The Jews can't take over. Stop worrying about the Jews. Unless you do believe they are they chosen people...hmmm? View attachment 41118
I've made it plain in numerous posts that this doesn't concern all Jews, just the ones that subscribe to radical zionism. Its not anti-semitic to challenge the racist policies of modern zionism. With me, this is an issue of political ideology gone bad. Religion only figures into it as a tool. It is NOT the cause of strife in the Middle East. That is being caused by zionism itself, which preys upon what people believe in. They know what scares you. They also know that if they can create what scares you and offer protection from it, they can live forever in the host body of world Jewry. Zionism is an infection. Right now it's running rampant through some of the world's most critical power structures. I'd say that's cause for alarm. x
Perhaps that's why when our towers were still smoldering and we were trying to pick up our dead on 09/11, Israeli ambassadors were falling all over themselves inciting a war against Islam? The rest of the world was sending us messages of support and condolence, including Muslim countries. The Israelis were calling for war. And we continue to support Israel? I no longer feel any need to stand with them or people with your mindset.
So you're saying that it's okay for other people to attack Jews outside of Israel because they can get away with it? That's Hitler speak, dude.
