I wasnt sure where to post this so i went to psychedelics. I'm a normal kid and shit and every once and a while i have some kinda bad depression. Do those anti depressants actually help you get "happier" or do they just keep you from having breakdowns? I really need some replies cuz i'm not feelin very good. Peace.

well i can't think of one anti-depressant that is a controlled substance, aka a drug that gets you high (with the exception of steroids). No, they don't make you happy. in fact, a lot of them just make you tired, really tired.

drugs like prozac and paxil have aweful side effects and don't make you happy. This is why i wish doctors could prescribed oxycontin for depression.

Some doctors prescribe alprazolam for depression, see if you can twirk that somehow. I'm sure you could get the doctor to prescribe you some. If for no other reason than to sell it. They go for $5 per 2mg pill around here.

antidepressants are typically SSRIs and they do make you feel good is you have real depression. Xanax is for anxiety.

I know xanax is for anxiety. But some doctors still prescribe it for depression. My mom, for instance, is prescribed 30 bars per month for depression.

you should know that depression, as an illness or disorder, caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and therefore correctable with the use of drugs, was a definition pushed by the people who happen to cash in big time on drug sales of antidepressents. especially the SSRI drugs.

an increase in serotonin level in the brain by a drug you take every day seems to make depression go away on some levels for a big enough percentage of people to have given it the success in sales SSRIs got. does not mean it fixes it or that your initial reason for being depressed was low serotonin.
read about it, from different view points,

you know the best overcome of depression is learning self esteem and understanding of your own emotions. to try to cover up depression means that you are never going to heal your mind. its immature and its weak. everyone gets depression, some people just learn to live in a way that you dont.

real depression (chemical imbalance) isnt something that comes and goes, it renders people incapacitated often. most people are just whingy.

its fine to be whingy, it just means that youll never learn

for real depression you DO need antidepressants. it's stupid to say that they're weak for using a chemical help. but it's true that too much teens confuse little mood swings and the illness.

yer and how many people DO have real depression to teh extent of their metabolic processes?

people should be taking 5-htp before takin fuckin drugs.

few people have the sort of depression which can only be overcome with drugs. however theres tonnes of money in that industry, so no one with the resources wants to find a better route.

at any rate, the person starting this thread doesnt have real depression. therefor, taking drugs for the depression is weak. which, once again, is not necessarily a bad thing, it will just mean that he will not actually develop out of the things that make him depressed.

There's no way of really knowing i have it unless it got diagnosed. I feel better now so i probably dont have it, but the other night wasnt a mood swing. it was a breakdown. I hope dont have any more of those.

actually, being diagnosed is bs, psychiatrists dont determine your state, they work out what they CAN class you as. its how theyre tought. having depressed episodes at 15 is normal for many kids, boys and girls alike.

if you can overcome that sort of thing during adolescence, youll be a stronger person for the rest of your life. if you get angsty about it and try to escape, youll just plant seeds for being worse off when your midlife crisis comes along

i think doctors these days are way to quick to prescribe that shit, i think there really is a huge misunderstanding on what "depression" really is. i think the sang, i feel depressed, is way overused to the point of even pissing me off, people always complaining about being depressed, but in reality they probably just had a bad day, depression isn't just a feeling blue, or a bad day, it's a nonstop hopeless feeling that doesn't go away, a feeling where you really can't remember when you were truely happy, if you feel like that, then i would see a doctor about maybe getting on some anti depressants

Well ive been taking Cipralex , a new ssri, for 2 months now, and I can tell you that I feel happier, less anxious and more motivated. It helps...But I feel kinda sleepy once in a while.

Seek help if you feel bad...That's what I do

the biggest cons of ssri's is that it takes a shitload of a tryptamine to make you trip. otherwise the side effects are exagerated.

My mom takes antideppresants and anxiety pills and she said that they work really well. So well in fact that she keeps trying to force the things on me cuz she seems to think I need them

    BUT

My boyfriend takes zoloft I think (whatever drug is for bi-polar ppl) and he hates them because they make him a zombie so he just stopped taking them. I have heard that antidepressants have that type of effect from several ppl.

If I were you, I would try them out and see how things go. If you dont like them, stop taking them. If they work for you and make you feel better then keep taking them. They affect different people in different ways.
