    Yesterday the statue of slave trader Edward Colston was torn down and thrown into Bristol Harbour by a group of protesters .

    This comes not long after the statue of Robert E.Lee is to be removed Richmond , Virginia this time by order of the Governor of Virginia.

    The mood and values of society changes over time.I remember listening Alistair Cooke Letter From America to be careful of not judging people outside of their historical context and gave the example of Abraham Lincoln who kept slaves. This was something he was expected to do and he treated them quite well.

    Let us not forget we are all products of our upbringing and conditioning of life's circumstances.

    Irrespective of whether there is a statue erected of a racist, confederate General or not, the mental attitude of 'white supremacist' persists even to this day some 160 years later !!!

    And to remove all statues whit a connection to that would change it?
    The change starts in your mind and if you have some thoughts like this you can´t remove it by tearing down monuments in public.
    it´s way more harder to Change the Things in your privat environment.

    As Edward Colston's statue was made of bronze and we live in a world of finite resources, I think the statue should be pulled out the harbour and melted down for other uses.

    I’m glade the statue is gone, sadly many of harbours of England where used as ways of sending slaves to America. The British are just as complicit in slavery as American. We have a shameful past with regardless to racism, and is often overlooked or ignored. The media never seems to report that the people of Bristol have been campaigning for some time to have this statue removed.

    He said those words after leading an insurrection against the legitimate government killing tens of thousands at the Battle of Antietam, Fredericksburg,
    Chancellorsville, ..etc..

    Sure he was humbled in defeat, but he should have hung by the neck for sedition
