    HI, it's me again...

ok so yesterday i took the last two Paxil CR pills i had left... and then later that day i got a thing in the mail saying that they either wern't making any more Paxil CR or that they were postponeing making any more. whatever that means. and i don't have the money to buy any more. im in between insurance companies. my mom's insurance dumped me cause im too old to be under her name, and i just got full time work at my job, but i dont know when thoes benifits will pull through.

i have some sample packs of the Paxil CR that my doc gave me when i was thinking about going on it five packs of 7 pills total. 3 of the packs are the regular 25mg pill and they expired 12/2004. the other 2 are 12.5mg pills and they expired 1/2005.

so my question is, is it ok to take the regular dosage (50mg) with these pills, even though their expired, rather than wait to refill a perscription when the pills are in stock, and risk lossing my head again from just stoping taking the Paxil CR?

if anybody even understood my question there, then please give me some advice.

Laura, so long as the samples have been adequately stored, it is absolutely fine to take them. They are still okay.

Your pharmacist can call your doctor to qet your prescription changed. 50 mg of Paxil CR is equivelent to 40 mg of regular Paxil.

Glaxo, the manufacturer of Paxil CR, got cited for "bad manufacturing practices", because many of the tablets were falling apart. The FDA seized the ENTIRE lot, so NONE is available right now.

Regular Paxil 40 mg comes in a generic, and your pharmacist may be able to work with you on the price somewhat, especially since you work at a drug store.

    Good Luck!

They are working with the FDA to get this resolved quickly. Regular Paxil is the same exact drug though. If it were me, and I switched, I wouldn't bother switching back.

The pharmacist will have to call the doctor to get the order changed.

Paxil dissolves quickly. Paxil CR takes about 4 hours to dissolve. Since Paxil has a very long half-life, and it takes days to weeks to acheive steady blood levels, there is little, if any, benefit to the control release.

    ok, im almost out of the 25mg pills, only one box of seven left and then just 2 boxes of thoes 12.5mg pills {seven in each box}. so im thinking i can take Two 12.5mg and One 25mg to get the 50mg's i need. is that corect? {just checking.}

and i think all of this will still only give me a weeks (7 days) worth of that 50mg's.

my mom called in the perscription, the pharmacy said they'd have to call the doc, but the doc never called them back! now i have to go see the doc, and sence im off my mom's insurance, i have to pay full price. {the doc aint cheap:) } but im afraid i'll run out of meds!!! is there anything else i can take that might hold me over till i get the regular paxil? if so, what's it called and how much does it cost?

There is nothing over the counter. If I were you, I would follow up with the doctor, find out why he/she hasn't called the pharmacy back.

You can take 1 25 mg and 2 12.5mg, or just take 4 12.5 mg, its all the same, so long as it equals 50mg.

Your doctor is OBLIGATED to either call you or the pharmacy. I would call several times, and find out WHY no one was called back.

ok, here's the latest news. i think i have enough paxil to last me untill staurday. my mom's out of town and she'll be back saturday. i talked to my boss and asked when my new full time insurance would kick in, and she said sometime around june. i dont know the docs number, so i cant call him. when my mom gets back and sets up an appointment with the doc, it will be too late cause by that time or whenever she sets up the appointment for, i would have already been off the paxil for over a day and i know photo said that it's ok to skip a day but to not skip more than 1. So i don't know what to do!!!!

on another note, after i talked to my boss about the insurance, and she asked why and i told her some of the paxil problems im having. she asked a pharmicist there (for me) what i could do for insurance or lesser perscription costs and he gave her a couple of forms thingys.

one of them says somthing like - perscription savings pass plan:$5.00 enrollment fee

the otheris this enrollment form and in the corrner it says Together RX Access

but my boss didn't tell me what im suposed to do with these. i filled out the seconed one as much as i could. but i don't have any inklink of an idea as to what to do with these.

    Im So CONFUSED!!!
IM afraid of what will happen when i run out of the paxil (after im off it for a few days):&:(
i don't know why, ive been off it before. but it's like, the seconed i decide to really start taking it (and keep taking it) life decides to throw me through a loop!

Your pharmcist will have your doctor's phone number. Ask them. It HAS to be on the original prescription, or the doctor gives it when he calls them in. They will give you the number, and you can ask for enough to get you through.

    Good luck, Laura.
