Go to Mt.Gox, they are the #1 distributors in the world apart from BTCchina. Or go to MCXnow and you can get a wallet and buy a coin from a person you know or something.
How safe is it? I heard that $1000,000 was stolen from a Bitcoin outlet recently.I'm just interested to buy a few £100 worth and see how it goes...
As long as you keep your info to yourself and keep most of your coins in offline wallets, then you should be safe. Especially dealing with just a few hundred bucks, there are much juicier targets for someone that has spent years learning how to hack crypto codes.
