An Alphabet of Divine Names

Here's the idea - an alphabet of Divine Names.

There are said to be millions of names of the Divine - let's see if we can get through the alphabet - in fact it should be possible to get through it several times - assuming the thread doesn't just die.

Only one name per post please....

Feel free to post names of gurus, saints etc if you can't think of a name of God/Goddess. You can post Divine names from any tradition/belief system, not only Hinduism.

Also feel free to post pics and info.

Let's see how it goes.....

A is for Agni.

In the Rig Veda, god of fire. Said to represent the inner aspiration for the Divine.

 

B is for Balarama.
In the Bhagavatam, elder brother and plenary expansion of Sri Krishna.

 

B is also for Bhaktivedanta, as in A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami.


You beat me to Balarama.

 

C is for Coeus, the Greek Titan of intelligence!

 

D is Dhanvantari God of Medicine - The healing part of the Lord.

 

But Bhaktivedanta is not a word though , its a statement isn't it? I thought it meant the final destination for all vedanta is the development of Bhakti.

 

E is for Eka-Srnga - One of the early Avatars of Vishnu usually depicted as a fish, who saved Manu during the great flood.

According to some Hindu traditions there was a universal flood in which all mankind with the exception of Manu were annihilated. Prior to the flood Vishnu appeared in the form of a fish - Matsya. He was caught by Manu, who later released him into the ocean after recieving instructions about the coming deluge. When the flood came. Vishnu Eka-Srnga appeared, and saved Manu, who went on to be progenitor of the new human race, as well as law-giver.

F is for Freya - Norse goddesss of love and fertility.

 

G for Gayatri Ma!

H for HrishiKesha!- The Controller and Lord of the Senses of all Living Things

 

I is for Indra - in the Rig Veda lord of the thunderbolt.

 

J for Jiva - The Spirit Soul ( Arjuna ) that realizes its true Self when it seeks God (Krishna).

 

K for Krishna!!! wooo hooo!!!
