Thought I’ld intro myself and explain the journey that brought me here. I’m 52 yo. Lived in SLC till I was 20-something, moved to SoCal, am settling in Pacific Northwest where I’ve lived the last 3 yrs. A week ago, while listening to my favorite rock station, a dj said he hated hippies and his partner said, “Ya, hippies give stonners a bad name.” This irritated me and upon returning home, I mentioned it to my wife, the “shrink”, (no really she’s a therapist) that it irritated me because some of my closest friends have been hippies and I used to be one. My wife made a few therapist-type comments and I was forced to stop and think. …This journey begins When I met my wife I had recently changed careers from being a Civil design engineer specializing in what is known as “green design” which basically means respect nature, work with nature, learn from nature, and destroy as little of nature as possible to working for myself as a freelance designer and a computer systems designer for engineering firms. I made this change because I had a two yo daughter with special needs from a previous relationship and her mom couldn’t work and take care of her, so I decided to work from home and raise her. I had a bushy foxtail-like ponytail and instead of going to clients and meetings with the standard briefcase, I toted around a backpack. I am still wearing a permanent bead choker and permanent bead bracelet that I’ve had as long as I can remember. My hair is thinner but it is still past the middle of my back when braided. I enjoy a good bud when it’s around. I love the Northwest and our farm, which helps us be largely self-sufficient and allows me to grow a few special herbs. I burn Nag Champa when I meditate. I teach the kids about peace, love, and acceptance of all our brothers and sisters. Big brother still annoys me, the Gov. still sucks, war still sucks, and “the man” is still getting richer and fucking us all over every chance he gets so he can make even more money…. I could go on but here’s my revelation. I’m STILL a hippie ! I have always been a hippie ! Being a hippie is a life philosophy ! So, I decided to reconnect with my brothers and sisters and I turned to the web. I looked at a bunch of supposed hippie websites but I didn’t find one as connected and as genuine as this site. So here I am. <BTW> The radio station apologized and sent me a tee shirt after I pointed out to them that unless the people they were referring to were over 50 yo, they were not talking about the real thing!
Welcome to the forums! I'm a bit too young for this forum, but I was just browsing. I wanted to tell you that I love your name. Donovan's the man. Peace!
ow gawd another ya cant be a hippie unless yer over 50 type.. whats yer therapist wife say about your narrow mindedness???
im a hippie hillbilly ... so that points mute.. i just find it narrowminded to say there are no hippies under 50 because its just not true..
Hey chill Hillbilly. Read the title of the post, "An All Encompassing Philosophy". Sorry if I offended you in any way. If you check the history books you will see that the hippie era had ended by 1972. The philosophy will not end. You can call yourself a hippie, neo-hippie, hillbilly .... whatever label you want to put on yourself. We're all God's children bro.
hehehhehhehhe,, i never get upset brother.. you said ,, err typed it not me.. AAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAH OKEY DOKEY LETS PLAY THE HOKEY POKEY..
Welcome to the forums... I don't know how much longer you'll think it's connected and genuine though. There are only very small pockets of that.
Check out the new COOL forum under Philosophy. We are forming a new community to unite hippies young and old... http://www.hipforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=425 Enjoy!
