I keep hearing these so called experts and analysts saying that we need to fight the Taliban over in Afghanistan. I find that to be total bullshit. The attacks on America happen by way of plane hijackings and bombs by small operations that are already here. True they may be involved with foreign terrorist organizations. It seems to me that to prevent this you don't need to occupy that country with troops. You simply need to man the waters, which we do, watch the sky, which we do and get people involved with recognizing smaller groups with-in the country, which we do, but could do better by recruiting all the paranoid people that are out there.. giving them something useful to do. Lets be real, how can an army be protecting us from over there when every attack on America was either in the form of air attack or bombing. It is like trying to stop another country from choosing communism. We failed at that and to think you can stop anymore attacks by blowing people off this earth for their natural born rights to choose for themselves how they rule themselves is an exercise in futility. It isn't like one day the coasts of this country will somehow be penetrated by an army from Afghanistan, it seems virtually impossible. Please share any ideas on this topic.. I know I could be wrong. I fear that no e-mail I could send to any human in congress or senate would make a difference at all, tell me I am wrong.
slow moving helos are not suited for the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan.. While they keep saying how expensive this war is.. Life is more expensive than radio controlled drones.. Time we move to technology.. Or just leave them the fuck alone..
I would say lets stop killing them. They do a good enough job of killing themselves. I heard on msnbc that our army has used those unmanned aircrafts to kill random civilians over there not connected to terrorism at all.. for money. That is some gang type shit. That is unsupportable. The army needs to stop.
We have absolute control of our own country, yet they can still exist here. It's simply not possible to occupy a foreign land, allow freedom there, and be sure no terrorist cells will ever pop up. We can't be sure here, we damned sure can't be sure elsewhere. You make a very good point IMO. Fighting them over there ensures that some of them will be motivated enough to fight us here. Still, unless we don't trust our own society's ability to function and carry out its most fundamental tasks, there's no reason to fear them.
We're trying to keep a terrorist organization from again gaining complete and total control over a country. The Taliban ran Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001 and in that time allowed other terrorist organizations to set up camp and prosper. Al Qaeda set up their headquarters in Afghanistan were it could run its operations without check, and the attack that was executed in 01 was found to be directly related to this operation. Which is why it was basically declared that any state that sponsors terrorism would be dealt with as terrorists themselves. Regardless of our strategy or how right or wrong it is, the Taliban should not be allowed free reign to a country.
What gives us the right to impede on them, we cannot make a whole other country with culture unlike ours become the way we at least try to be (yet fail at miserably), but I find it just as barbaric to go over there and enslave a nation of people because of insecurities that we possess. If we truly had a safe homeland we wouldn't need to worry about what some other country does behind closed doors. We attempted the same thing in vietnam and were destroyed because we were in territory that soldiers are not accustomed to and we were fighting people who are not afraid of death like so many Americans are, we mourn death and they praise it. Therefor we will not win and there is nothing to gain from acting like they are now democratic, because truthfully they are used to bombs and doing what they do and they will continue to fight. Us being there makes the people over there that aren't for terrorism type shit want to kill us because we are enslaving them.
Impede on them? We took down a government ran by the Taliban who gave safe haven the the group that killed nearly three thousand people within a few hours. I believe forced democracy was a policy of a previous administration. Currently we're focusing on pacifying the Taliban so they won't gain power once again after we've pulled out, setting ourselves up to repeat history.
we are just extending empire--like the romans--let em govern themselves to our specs--then tax em---oil? opiates? they have something we want-maybe its just for bases for when we attack pakistan ? terrorism--doubt it
What people don't realize is that the Taliban are the PEOPLE of Afghanistan (and parts of Pakistan). You can't just wipe them out. For every male Taliban there is a whole family, women, children who live with them and often die when they die. At this point the Taliban are simply defending their land from foreign invaders. The Taliban has never itself attacked America (but they may now). America and Nato are the occupying force, unwanted, untrusted, not muslim but mostly Xtian, many with the aim of converting these "heathens" into good Xtians. Is that what we're really there for? To convert? Let's leave them to themselves. We have far more important things to do with our public debt than use it to fund endless wars and Christian Crusades....
Christian Crusades?? You're off by almost a thousand years...and I'm seriously doubting that there's some secret Obama-spiracy to convert every Muslim to Christianity. The people of Afghanistan and the Taliban are not interchangeable. The Taliban is comprised of Afghans, just the same that the Republican Party is comprised of Americans. The Taliban never attacked America, true, but they willingly sheltered within their country those responsible for planning and executing those attacks. They allowed terrorist organizations to base their operations there and train their operatives. Following 9/11, they even had their chance to simply hand over Bin Laden and refused. "They will hand over the terrorists or they will share in their fate" So the argument here is that we should have let a terrorist organization that gained power through force continue business as usual?
The argument is that there are more covert ways of defending your self from attackers than blazing guns and drone air crafts. The most obvious threat is normally the least threatening.
heres the solution to american security- send all white people back to europe. it was quite peaceful before whites arrived
As a Cherokee, I second that motion. Afghanistan and Iraq did not attack us. It was one small group led by one mentally disturbed individual. We have destroyed two nations, killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people, sacrificed thousands of our own soldiers, decimated our own economy and still have not killed the person(s) responsible. I call it madness. And yes, the aim of the Bush Administration was to "Christianize" the Middle East. That's clear from the memos that went around the White House during his reign over America. It's also clear to me that he intended to bring about Armageddon. .
Don't worry too much about what we're doing and how long we'll be there. US Geological just announced there's 3 trillion worth of minerals there. Don't you know the wheels are frantically turning as we speak ,as to how "we" and I use the word "we" advisedly, are going to get all the riches "we" can out of there and reasons why "we" should stay indefinately. The news organizations are already spewing the tired old bullshit about how those minerals are going to change the lives of Afghanis. That's right--and I'm gonna' fly to the fucken' moon on gossamer wings. The usual cast of characters will be falling all over themselves to rape the place. I'm sure WE,the taxpayers will be getting the money from oil revenues to pay for the Iraq war,AS PROMISED,any minute now.Pffft. Go to it boys---WE"LL send our young over to protect your companies.
How can we get out?How can we get out now? How can we get out now without losing? I'll tell you how--you fly a bunch of airplanes over there and tell our men and women to get on the damn things and we fly 'em back here and then start to properly heal this country. Those people would seem to prefer to live in another, more distant century ,anyway.
You seem to be very well educated on these subjects, so, please tell us how "The elites who run america" can secure the borders and keep those damn Mexicans from coming over here and picking our crops and cleaning our toilets. How can "bankers" ensure our safety? And, can you tell us more about these bankers who are suing Arizona? I've only heard about civil rights groups suing them. .
The Taliban have no more right to call Afghanistan theirs than the Americans do. The Taliban formed and brought a country in chaos under control using a distorted version of Islam and a brutal form of Sharia law. After the Taliban formed and began rule, groups of Afghans who were formerly enemies joined together to fight their common enemy, the Taliban. This group became known as the United Islamic Front for the Salvation of Afghanistan, or the Northern Alliance. Afghanistan is rich in culture, and the Taliban want nothing more than to suppress that. The Afghan people are skeptical of the intentions of the Americans and Nato forces, but they do not wish to live under Taliban rule.
No country or outside force has ever been able to control Afganistan and plenty have tried. Either we stay forever or get out and declare victory. We can't win there on a permanent basis. A year after we leave,it will return to the same kind of place it was 10 years ago. Viet Nam. Anyone remember that one? Why did our young die there? Oh yeah--the dirty commies. The military -industrial complex that Ike warned us about is making $ had over fist. What's new?
The truth is simple. Our government has become corrupted. It is following the exact same imperialist agenda that so many nations of the past have done. This is exactly what our forefathers knew would happen eventually. It is history repeated. The difference is our constitution provides a clause that says if the government is corrupt and going against the will of the people then it is our duty to take matters into our own hands.
The way I understand it, We are our government, and we elect the leaders of it. So, the solution is simple, stop electing corrupt leaders? What "will of the people" is government "going against," and, are you proposing a Civil War? .
