I've been watching American Horror Story for the last four years and I love it! This show has managed to woo a huge audience over the years with a completely different plot line and characters each season. The ensemble of actors is extremely talented, with Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett and Cathy Bates starring in leading roles. Previous seasons have seen a haunted house, an insane asylum and a house full of witches as the locales. This season the plot is about a Freak Show, with Jessica Lange as the ringmaster and star entertainer (so she thinks!) There's a wide variety of "freaks" on display this season with a two headed woman (exceptionally well-done! A classic!), a bearded lady (Cathy Bates), a three breasted woman (played wonderfully by Angela Bassett), Lobsterboy with clawlike hands, and the usual assortment of midgets, pinheads, etc. Already the plot has thickened with all sorts of secrets coming out about each member of the freak show. Oh, and let's not forget about the CLOWNS! Oh boy! American Horror Story is shown on Wednesdays on FX cable channel. Previous seasons may be available online via Netflix. Don't miss it if you like any kind of horror! This is as good as it gets! This post has been promoted to an article
I saw an episode of this last week and loved it! I was meaning to look it up to find it in its entirity so far.....what channel and if you can get what was on already on the demand channels. It is so well done, from what I have seen....and interesting and great......
and I adore Cathy Bates...always have....and she is funny as the bearded lady...... I cannot get 1. to go away....and it is weird lately...things showing up that i do not type..... I feel like I am in Freak show....LOL
In the days before TV, this concept was called repertory theater, and it's great to see it make a come-back in modern times! Nothing is more challenging to an actor. I started watching last summer. I like this season, but I enjoyed last year ("Coven") even more, partly because of its deep New Orleans connections.
What's really unusual about this show are the incredibly strong women characters. The focus of the series seems to be the women, with the men taking a backseat most of the time. When men appear their characters are either weak or extremely evil, while there's often a woman in charge. So this makes me think most of the writers are women.
It reminds me of good porn. Or good bluegrass solos. A refined version of an obnoxiously generic story in a traditional highly unrealistic style, with little touches and variations from skilled actors, who use it lto show off their acting
Of course, this season's "Freak Show" pays homage to the movie "Freaks", with lots of added touches as you say.
I've only seen the season with the haunted house which really didn't grab me but I do think the witches coven and the new season with the freak show sounds promising.
Yeah, I fell in love with show with the very first episode and each season has been pretty damn good, BUT the one thing that is killing it for me in this current season is those fucking lame songs that they break into. Holy Crap Batman!, it's supposed to be 1952, the guitars they are playing didn't exist and a Jim Morrison reference???? Please, give me a break, he was about 9 or 10 in 1952. Those lame song numbers with elements from what is that shows future tends to kill the atmosphere and immersion into the story for me. But there is something oddly compelling about the show, you just gotta watch, kinda like passing a nasty crash on the highway, you just gotta peak. LOL. and what about those horny little buggers in the opening sequence....
By the way... the disturbing medical museum seen in Freak Show is the real deal. In Philadelphia: http://muttermuseum.org/
Yes, that was good. I didn't like the witches in N.O. nearly as much, although Angela Bassett stole that season!
I have not missed an episode of the show. I absolutely love it, especially this season with the freakshow circus.
