you guys really beleive the cops have nothin better to do than catch a closet grower? Not only is it impossible to trace back a post to a home address....its not cost effective to even try. Unless you include your address in the picture...YOUR SAFE! You would think I would get a ADMIN to back me here!!!

I'm in IT and it is very simple to trace a post back to your home. The thing is, you obtain the user's IP address and the time they were using it. Then you perform a whois to find out their provider. The next step is getting a court order and calling the ISP with the info and they give you the person's address.

My company has been hacked once or twice in it's 15+ years of existence and I have gone through those steps (except the court order call, the Computer Crimes division of the police department tend to take care of that.) AKA, you are in no way anonymous on the internet.

Well to obtain the IP they would have to have permission from the owner of these forums, and I dont think any admin will give anyones ip out.

They dont' need permission for that. They just need a packet sniffer and they can see where all the packets are going to/coming from.

Yes, hackers tend to use public proxies (while controlling other people's computer etc etc, but just a public proxy is good security.

Don't you love the peoples beleif that the internet is safe and secure! I hate to be out bursting bubbles, as i myself hate it when people pop my bubble, but anyways, quiet honestly the internet was not originaly designed to be a secure network, it was basicly a way to share free information within the military(originaly) Yes it has come along ways sense the begenning, it is still everything but secure.

i don't think people should worry. if the police have got time to bust us for having a smoke i'd like to know why they haven't busted all the dealers and internet kid porn stuff that seems to be more frequent in the papers and on the news. i serioulsy doubt they are worrying about a few people on the web chatting about smoking or growing a bit of personal.

if i did get busted i'd just try and hi-light those things and the whole stupid law surrounding it, might educate some people. someone told me today about hearing 2 people on a train talking about cannabis, and how the person who invented it should be killed. yeah ... that'll be the same peron who invented you ... ffs ... thats if you believe in a god. sorry i'm rambling but you get what i'm saying i hope. :)

i'm lucky though that i work for myself so no job worrys :) although the thought of a fine or prision time obviously isn't appealing! but if it was prison, just another thing to try and publicise ... great way to spend tax payers money by sending me inside, i'm a real danger to society smoking a reefer at home with a few mates. they'd rather we was out drinking and mashing up people in town

the laws are so stupid. its like where i live, 5 mins from my house one way i got a corner shop that sells everything, pipes, bongs, all different types of skins and blunts, everthing for the weed smoker. all legally for sale. in the shop where i get the paper in the morning! 5 mins the other way i've got a growshop! again all legal. and all the sales from those are taxed by the government. but its illegal to smoke?!? this just forces those who do to go to dodgey dealers who could be offering all sorts of drugs, and keeps shite like soapbar out there thats just full of poisons and nasty shit. when will people realise prohibition doesn't work?!

sorry i'm going on some arn't it  :&

there was loads of smileys in this post but it wouldn't let me post it with all of them. confused stoned smiley smiley here.

I always thought the initial network was between universities, and became ARPANET when the military got involved?

The starting principal to share information was, as far as I remember military communications, and was adapted by corporations/universities to create a more public network of information, which has now evolved into the internet of today.

I would agree we have no reason to worry, but I would not punch a credit card number into a website for any reason.

Prohibition actually makes smoking weed more dangerous. It makes it hard to get stuff like vaporizers to make it safe, and it makes it impractical to get enough to just eat, which doesn't mess up your lungs or throat or anything at all. It makes the whole situation worse. A good website:

Heres the thing, you CAN be busted by talking about illegal activities you partake in. I know someone who took a picture of himself inside of an abandoned building and posted the picture on his site. Sure enough he gets tracked down, dragged into court, and was fined for trespassing. Getting someone's IP is really easy for people who make it their living or hobby. If someone wants to find you, they can.

Now, I wouldn't worry too much about talking about smoking. Anyone watching these forums is probably looking for bigger stuff. Talking about growing and showing off pictures isn't that smart and idea, in my opinion, because thats something they can bust in your house and find.

I dunno, maybe I am a bit paranoid, but they definitely can find you if they want, so what you have to worry about is "will they want to accuse me" and no one really knows except them.

While I think that the cops are NOT going to browse this site and track me down for anything, you'll notice that I never give specifics about how or when I get any weed. I highly doubt that anyone has ever gotten in trouble with the law for something they posted on hipforums, but better safe than sorry. There really is no reason other than bragging rights to post pics of your growroom and such. Feeding the ego is one of the biggest downfalls for growers. They tell people they have a sweet set-up, they tell the wrong person and get busted.

That's why this is my only post in the growers section. ;)

" highly doubt that anyone has ever gotten in trouble with the law for something they posted on hipforums"

Not true! One individual did get contacted by the secret service for making threats against the president. But that's all I know about. Besides the site itself being featured as a site that supposedly sells marijuana (this was on TV nationwaide). Helped boost our traffic, but a complete lie, just one of many our gov't perpetrates.
