I used to tell myself I would change. Told myself I'd go to college and would have no trouble finding a relationship. But this far in my life, 19 years, with no change, I'm really getting worried. I am so terribly introverted and socially handicapped, and some girls seem to find me physically attractive, but they're always put off by my silence, so it really doesn't matter. It's all subconscious, I have no control over it. In social situations my brain shuts off and trying to manage a conversation, especially with a girl, feels like I'm foolishly attempting brain surgery.

You are not alone in this. There are many people like yourself. You can go two ways about this.
    1. Wallow in your own self pity till you feel really depressed and then nobody will like you!
    2. Accept that you are not ready for a relationship right now and get on with your life.
If you want my opinion I would choose number 2. You are 19 and have your own life ahead of you. You need to accept that a relationship may not right for you at the moment. Do something wacky with your life. Have all the fun you can get and live for the moment. Go travelling, take up a weird hobby. This should be an interesting talking point when you are chating to girls. If you choose a weird hobby be prepared for a lot of questions. Then ask them about their hobbys. People love talking about themselves. Also remember not to reveal to much about yourself to soon. Take your time! Girls love the mistery. But tell them something that will wet their appitite to ask more and dig deeper.

    Peace, Love and cookies

but I am a girl, so what difference would that make. Besides everytime I every got stoned, putting words together to make a sentence that made sense was the last thing I could do.

I was alot shyer when I was young. Then I realized it was getting in my way to better things so I pushed myself forward. I realized everyone says stupid shit, pearls of wisdom don't always flow and nobody is better than anyone else. I faked not being as shy till I felt comfortable with speaking up. The old adage "fake it till yah make it" helped me.

please do not do that!!! I am just in the midst of all the shit that can happen if you cover problems with drugs.

ever tried counseling? they can help a lot finding what your problem is, and help you to develop strategies to overcome them.

Know how you feel, a few drinks usually help though :p

Your only 19 you've got loads of time to find someone who really likes you for who you are :)

This is good advice. Just try to talk to people. I used to be really introverted and had a hard time carrying on a conversation, but just if you put yourself out there, and take a few risks, you'll develop better conversational skills.

If you find yourself in silence, that's a good time to pay the girl a compliment, kiss her hand and say she's beautiful, or just stare into her eyes and smile. It can be goofy, but I've found that a lot of girls like goofy.
