Hello... been looking for a site like this for some time... can't believe I didn't find it before, but then my Google technique probably isn't that good! This site certainly is one of the most vibrant and busiest I have seen.

I'm an alternative hippy that wants to breakaway from the "overhead" associated with living with mainstream society so I can concentrate on doing the stuff I want to do. In my case, I find just existing in modern society with all of it's red tape takes up too much time and creates a certain degree of stress. I also believe - probably like many of you on here - that modern society is massivly wasteful.

However, I'm a firm believer in that we can combine both modern technology as well as more traditional techniques rather than going for either extreme. My aim is to develop a commune in Wales focussing on minimal impact living. Without being specific, I've always wanted to engineer, innovate or "invent" new things - and I would love to concentrate on doing that rather than a mainstream life where everything seems to involve one complication or another.

Of course, I expect there will be hurdles, surprises and dissapointments along the way - but then this is all part of the learning process!

Hi. I'm with you. My dream has always been to be as self sufficient as possible. I'm a loner so a commune wouldn't be my thing(maybe in another life). But my husband teenage daughter and I are getting starting on making that dream a reality next summer.
