I just won't to throw out there that there are various non-traditional (yet just as effective) forms of meditation. I personally work with the 5Rhythms method. It's simply dancing to the different rhythms of life as a form of meditation. You can also go on a Buddhist-esque walking meditation or even ride a motorcycle! The key aspects of meditation is the focusing of the mind inward. There are nearly limitless ways of meditating if you think about it.

I hope this helps any of you who feel frustrated when you can't meditate "correctly." I love that bumper sticker: "Support spiritual literacy, journey inward." Pleasant journeys!

yeah when I was alot younger I used to just sit there, and breathe, and do nothing, until later I realized that I was technically meditating.

Many can say that they have their own meditation. A lot of professional sports people go into a meditation while playing their sport. Psychologists have actually studied this state of consciousness and they have written books aobut it.

This means that a person does not artificially create it, but it is existing inside of everyone. Decades ago I had a book about this called 100 Ways to Get High Without Taking Drugs. Here is a site that tells more about this research and meditation called What is Enlightenment. It describes the deep state of meditation that I went into playing volleyball.

What I like to do is go to deep end of my pool, then just close my eyes and blow barely enough so that I sort of float to the bottom. Then I just calmly push up and do it all over again. It's really peaceful.
