George Dalmon, a former rugby player, and his friend Andy Miles were banned from all-you-can-eat restaurant, Gobi, In Brighton, after the manager branded them "a couple of pigs". The men would each eat five bowls of stir-fry during their regular meals at the Mongolian barbecue, which invites guests to create their own dishes from the buffet. Diners are told they can request meals "as many times as you wish" for £12. The manager, who did not want to be named, said the two friends were eating him out of business. He said: "Basically they just come in and pig out. We have put up with them for two years but I've had enough. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodandd...u-can-eat-restaurant-for-eating-too-much.html They were being pigs. Fair use should apply here. I'd have kicked them out after a month or so. Do you eat as much as you can or limit it to a reasonable amount?
All you can eat means all you can eat. I never go to the salad bar at a buffett, I go straight to the good stuff.
The occasional over-indulgence. - perhaps once every couple of months - is ok. These guys were there all of the time, it seems. That's taking the pee.
Hello, depending on which country's law applies . IANAL, but I think restaurants can decide not to service people, as long as they are not discriminating (no krauts here or something like that). But maybe one can sue them because of false advertising. IIRC there are cases of ISPs, that offered a flat rate. But after some time their customers complaint because their bandwidth was throttled. 'Oh, it is a flat rate, but only as long as our margin is good' said the ISP. Regards Gyro
At an Asian all- you can-eat place the waiters are trying to get rid of me by not serving me the water I ask for unless I demand it twice in a harsh tone, probably because they do not like the rate at which their sushi and maki is brushed off the trays and past my lips at such a fast rate. I still go here and still will. Even though the amount and the value of salmon fish that I put away completely exceeds the 5 quid that I pay for the buffet, they said it is an all- you-can -eat buffet and besides my eating there once a week is not going to put those Charlies out of business. I think some people are just really bitchy by nature. ROFL! How much is all the time, do you mean like everyday?
I think with ISP's they do have small print that states 'fair use' - if not more fool them. I think in this case they assume people will buy drinks, too. Mitigating the loss from the food. These guys were clearly taking advantage. I would hope it could be argued that these two were abusing the offer. I hope it could be argued that it was a premeditated plan, and not that they found the food and the hospitality so good they could not stop, and had to come back time and time again. If it was a one off incident and the guys were kicked out - then that's not fair.
Are you talking about the manager or the two above? I have a feeling the two above were laughing at this place and the manager. Egging each other on to eat as much as possible. It's faux indignation, imho. They are just annoyed they have been rumbled. I doubt everyday. I would say atleast once a week. More often than the average person would eat out - imho.
Oh, shit I also go to that place once a week. So that means the waiters maybe also perceieve it that I eat there all the time as well. I just said that some people can be quite fussy in general, which makes it hard to know if it is wise to take their side without having met them personally. At a pay-as-you -wish Asian joint an Indian waiter bitched at me for not paying him enaugh money and the food was shit. People perceieve things in different ways, so I do not think you can know for sure if the former rugby players were trying to hurt the restaurant owners on purpose. They probably thought they were taking advantage of a good deal in which they ate a lot of good money at an affordable price, and the manager thought they were just trying to mess with them.
That's fair, Rak. I don't know. I am judging them by their expressions. I don't know what type of attitude they had. I read (elsewhere) they were the first to the counter, and last to leave. I don't think they took into consideration the owners, to be honest. I don't know, though. I could heap my prejudices onto them all day
his business is his business in other words yes..i agree the owner should be able to ban whoever he wants from his property ...for any reason he chooses
He says theyre eating him out of business, but how many dainty little girls come in and have one dish? I think it probably balances out. He does have the right to do what he wants as the proprietor, but it doesn't seem ethical or good for business.
I agree, too. Sadly, the Brighton bloaters will have to find another source of unlimited nourishment. The manager insisted: "We are not a charity. We are a business. It’s our restaurant and we can tell people not to come back if we don’t want them to."
I guess you have to have been there. But just by the looks of them, and reading... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-19817457 ...it doesn't sound like they went there for a nice meal... ...they seem to have gone there and pigged out as quickly as possible - regardless of other patrons. I guess they (the owners) were taking into consideration other customers and the atmosphere of the place. I've been to those places and have 'pigged out' - they can probably eat more than I can - but you do it with a bit of dignity I have a feeling these guys didn't.
Did they pull up a chair to the buffet? I think the owner has to ban them to cover his ass, since next thing you know, these guys will be suing him for making them fat.
