I'm right. If you disagree, you're wrong. Anyone care to argue? Muhammad, Jesus, Moses = schizophrenic Big Bang theory, evolution, etc........
If you think big bang theory and evolution are religions you've got some growing up to do, young troll.
No it's science and it's proven. I wouldn't call it a religion. If you don't agree with it, maybe you just don't know enough about it. Cause I guarantee I know as much as you do about your religion and all the other ones. Here's some book suggestions, I've read them all cover to cover: Earth System History - Stanley Essentials of Geology - Stephen Marshak Paths of Faith - John A. Hutchison Origins of Man - Palmer The Bible The Koran Cultural Anthropology - Kottak Brief History of Western Civilization - Harrison Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders ... I could go on........
Here's my take on the whole Christian/Muslim thingy. Christ and Mohammed made a deal. They agreed that Christ would spread his teachings westward, Mohammed would spread his eastward. Then whenever they meet up on the otherside of the planet, their adherents would fight each other to the death. Then it's winner take all. That seems to explain everything I've seen happen in the mideast since I was born. Onward Christian Soldiers vs. Death to the Infidels
Since religion exists I don't see how you can claim it is false there op. You could legitimately say some adherents demonstrate the propensity for superstition. On the theory of a religious west vs a religious east it doesn't explain muslims fighting with muslims which is the current case of much of the violence in the middle east but a certain level of egotistical identification does explain mass violence in every sphere.
I shouldn't have even brought it up. I'm saying that modern science has proven them wrong. Logically, if one of them is right, then the other ones are all wrong because all they all contradict. Otherwise, they are all wrong. But I shouldn't have even started this thread.
How, exactly, has science proved them wrong? Science may have proved the Earth is older than 6000 years but, to my knowledge, it has yet to prove there is no god.....as many religious people are likely to point out. I say that as an agnostic and big fan of science.
Your regret for having started this thread Frog reminds me of the frog in the gradually boiling pot. Science has made some assertions hard to adhere to, religion keeps on though. It remains to be seen or discussed the similarities or differences between religions and how significant those things may be as to their individual verity or to their overall verity among the phenomena of the world.
It depends on what aspects of religion you are addressing, and how you define them; likewise for science. Some parts of religion have certainly been disproven by science, others have not or probably could not due to the untestablility of the claims.
As pointed out in other threads (yeah this argument has been done to death on here) science and religion do not have to oppose each other. They are both different aspects of the human urge to make sense of it all and a lot of people have use for both in their life.
No. Religion has proven them wrong. As far as the answer to post 7, that would involve a whole book. I am in the process of writing this book... but I would suggest you read all those books I wrote about in that other post. I've read them all front to back. The only thing that cannot be explained by science is who put the energy of the universe here. All the matter was created by the energy through interaction with the Higgs field after the big bang. The big bang has been proven through studying the cosmic microwave background as well as other things, including obervations of the Hubble Space Telescope. I will post the link to my book when I'm done... but until then, some guy named Joel Grus wrote a similar book, but it's not as scientific as mine will be. "How exactly has science proven them wrong?" is something that would take 100000000000000 posts to answer specifically. Evolution has been proven. And if you read those books in that top post, you will see that. Joel Grus - "Your Religion is False"
Here's a summary: creation story of Adam in the Garden of Eden = never happened. We evolved from Homo heidelbergensis roughly 200,000 years ago probably near what is now Tanzania. Noah's flood = didn't happen. There is no record in the geological stratigraphy and this is actually an adaptation of a Babylonian story of Gilgamesh. The Hebrews are not a special people. They were a relatively small and unimportant kingdom, especially when compared with empires like Assyria and Persia. Hinduism = come on now, really Confucianism = the purpose of life is to serve the state of China? I don't think so. Buddhism = sorry no reincarnation and why do they assume life is miserable in the first place? Jainism = let insects eat you? No thanks. Scientology = nope Did you know we evolved from bacteria? Look at one of your cells? Doesn't it look like a bacteria?
I'm all ears. And I don't really need to read your book list. I have an entire library of my own books dealing with both religion and science. On top of that...some of my best friends have science related degrees....other friends in that group have degrees related to religion history, etc. We've been having great debates/conversations for over 2 decades. So I'll ask you again....how has science proved that there is no god? Easy question.
there is even a very slim chance they may start out true. by which i mean be the will of some god. even all of them of the same god. between human ego, and language drift, it seldom takes more then a few decades to turn any literal reading of their texts false even so. whatever their source, it is by human word and human will that they are passed on. i would not say that their phylosophical intent is universally false. only when they deny the morality of the avoidance of causing harm, and/or, insist instead, upon becoming a substitute for it. prime examples being christianity and islam. then indeed they become truly false.
