'The Circle' used an AI player to create a bot witch hunt — and soon, we might all be defending our humanity online too (msn.com) I knew this was coming, but this is the first clue as to where its going. Meta and others will have to design their own VR reality TV for hunting down terminator robots. The technology to make AI indistinguishable from people, is making faster progress than our ability to detect them, while Begun, The Drone Wars Have!
Some years ago, a suit and transparent face mask was made covered in sensors. Several people stood on a rotating platform and were fully scanned during the rotation for several minutes. This was repeated with them wearing a few different outfits. A short section of an action movie was shot using the last person. During replay, at the press of a button, the person playing the part could be swapped with any of the others. The idea was, that you could watch a blockbuster film and choose your favourite actor. As long as a scan existed, in theory an actor could make a new film after he was dead. The idea was put forward on the pretext of use for stunt doubles, but the industry saw through it and the project was scrapped in the film industry. The results looked passable on a computer monitor, but in the non compressed 4k resolution format used on the cinema screen it was laughable. Things such as facial expressions hardly existed, along with mouth movement during speech.
Some claim there's an "Uncanny Valley" effect, but its really just an issue of our algorithms merely providing obvious fakes. No different than Mickey Mouse being an obvious fake, but his three finger balloon hands have white gloves, making them easier for the audience to dismiss, and suspend their disbelief. Video games are all about suspending your disbelief, and can easily be merged with reality TV. For example, whether you want to call NASCAR reality TV, or a Fantasy Commute, is up to the individual.
