I live in Florida and I have been dating my girlfriend for 7 months, the main problem is that she is 16 and I am 19. We haven't been sexually active because I am not 100% sure about the laws here in Florida. I am going to school to be a psychologist and I want to work with kids, so me getting in trouble for sexual activity with a minor is something that cannot happen. I have done some research in order to know 100% that it would not be illegal. We are not ready for sex, but other things would be nice and I think that we are at a point in our relationship where this isn't going to harm it. I am far out of the norm compared to most guys my age when it comes to sex. I would rather not take the risk right now. I searched on google to see what the laws of consent are for the state of Florida are and I have been left confused. Wikipedia says the following: "Florida The age of consent in Florida is 18, however close in age exemptions do exist. By law, the exception permits an adult under the age of 24 to engage in legal sexual activity with a minor no younger than the age of 16." Now, I see that the legal age is 18, but it says that exemptions do exist. So, would this be illegal? Thank you for reading and I hope someone could help me.
If I were you, I would do more research. On the one hand you say your relationship is not yet ready for sex, "but other things would be nice". If you are talking about performing oral on each other, or manual (finger/hand) stimulation, that is still considered sex, in that you are making sexual contact with a minor. It may not be "illegal", but I am sure her parents could still have you arrested for risk of injury to a minor, and or sexual misconduct. Both of which will cast a dark cloud on your future profession. On the other hand, you are spending a lot of time checking things out. Tell her that she must wait, because you cannot afford to jeapordize your future. Be very careful.............
if the quip you quoted under Florida is whats written in the lawbooks then yes you can legally fuck her, as she is 16 or older and you are 24 or younger

Parental rights do not matter, it is the state that files charges, not the parent. His complaint, "this scum is diddling my daughter" will motivate the police even if he is her parent by choice rather than chance.
Read the law. Talk to a leagle aid lawyer. Ask a Judge ( i mean it.). It is nice if the allowed range is 16-24 arty:. Here the range is 16-19, so over 19 with someone under 18 and is jail time.
