Our science class has to disect frogs and I'm completley against it! i mean we have to kill the poor little critters to find out whats inside them? really? couldn't we just read a book about it?
I was just wondering if anybody else was with me on this?

I can't stand Dissection, and you have to kill them before hand??? That's just shocking. Depending on your age and the age of your class mates they could torture the poor things before finally killing them.

I wouldn't do it if i were you, just step out the class.

in high school we were given the option to do a report instead of dissection, but I remember my teacher was very cautious in giving people permission to do the alternative report; she was afraid the girls would take advantage of it not because they genuinely had an ethical problem with it but because they were grossed out

i was one of the grossed out girls and i ended up doing the dissection. I think i had a very wise teacher :)

In anatomy and physiology in college we had to skin a dead cat.

BTW, frogs intestines look identical to ramen noodles ;)

They're already dead, and they would have been dead whether or not you dissect them. its a good learning experience.

I had to dissect an eyeball last year...
It led to the worst headache of my life, and my throat nearly swelling shut... Apparently I'm horribly allergic to the preservative commonly used. So that means no dissections for me! Not such a bad thing

I think in the interest of education it's justifiable. After all, we dissect human cadavers to teach medical students. Besides, most science classes get the frogs from biology groups who collect them after they die of exposure. No killing on our part.

I am a teacher and when we studied laws of education, I learned that you have the right to refuse to dissect anything living or once-living on grounds that it violates your religious and philosophical freedom. They must provide you with a plastic model or a computer model. Stand up for your beliefs!

What's the point? I think in these cases pupils should definitely be allowed to withdraw. In my opinion being grossed out is a good enough reason to not dissect an animal.

Well, the med students actually do something helpful with their gained knowledge. The average kid doesn't.

Should be optional in high school. Beyond that, if you're going into Bio or something along those lines, just fucking do it.

I'm totally with you on it!
I'm going to take anatomy next year, and I'm going to tell the teacher right away that I refuse to dissect because it's just mean!
