African Americans, do you get offended when white people choose to use phrases commonly identified with a small subculture which is generally associated with your race, not withstanding that while I use the term "African American", you are in reality simply "American", I am not affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan or any associated organizations, the opinions in this thread to not represent the opinions of hipforums Pty Ltd. Or any other affiliated companies. (C) 2009, Face Eater?
I'm not American. But if I were, I'd be offended only if that meant my wages were lower than the people imitating me.
I've only met three african americans my whole life. All the rest were born here, dammit, that makes them american americans.
The black man in america is the most copied man on the planet, bar none. Everyone wants to be black but nobody wants to be black. How bout that question.
But it was a dumb question. Or at least phrased pretty ignorantly. I hate to say Cherea has a point again. But yeah, I think I'd be more upset about unfair wages and unequal job opportunities rather than some people trying to 'walk that walk.' The inclusion of the epithet 'crackers' didn't seem genuine. Not that I found it offensive. I think it was just a disingenuous way to phase the question.
I was trying to think of that quote from John Malkovich as Cyrus “The Virus” Grissom in the movie Con Air where he describes how he feels about rapists Hotwater
yeah, glaring red flags went up when I saw he actually said "crackers" in a thread contextually centered around blacks
What the fuck are you giving me that shit for? The first person that made me realize such falsities was a black man! He got fucking PISSED when referred to as an African American. And it's goddamn true, he's not from Africa, and such labels can only serve to divide us further. Now, get the fuck outta here unless you actually have something to say, instead of just trying to make yourself look cool and condescending.
Firstly, I'm aware of the fact that there are discrimination issues as far as African Americans are concerned and I am disgusted by it. Essentially the issue is so obvious as to not require any clarification. Secondly, the inclusion of the word cracker was an attempt to inject some ironic humour into the thread title. Do you get the joke yet? I thought you were smarter than that. It wasn't an attempt to relate. I genuinely wanted to know something, so I asked about it.
Should they be called african american? They live in America. Maybe they should just be called "Americans".
Now, that post I like much better =) Yeah sure. But there are reasons for identifying with your nation. There is no reason for the illogical term 'African American' aside from some political correctness that Jesse Jackson likes. I want my black brothers to feel like the Americans they are - not some orphans away from their true home.
