Afghanistan report says it's all been for nothing

Discussion in 'Latest Hip News Stories' started by Deleted member 42017, Dec 10, 2019.

  1. The report was prepared by the Washington Post, but has been quoted by the New York Post as well.

If true, we have 2300 Americans killed in the effort and over 20,000 maimed. This casts shade on Bush, Obama and Trump.

America's longest conflict, has been for nothing. No progress has been made. Even the Taliban are taking control again.

The attempt could have been worthy? Would D day have been for nothing if it had failed?
But I think it was clear when they left that the Taliban would reclaim influence. So in that regard everyone with a brain knew that either you continue what you started or you give up what was attempted.

If I'm not mistaken the report shows the government intentionally misrepresented facts and figures from the war to justify continued US presence

I'm just going by the headline I saw earlier though, I haven't had a chance to read it yet

    Yeah, pretty much.

Here's a link to the Post's podcast about it, if anyone is interested: https://www.washingtonpost.com/podc...ers-a-secret-history-of-americas-longest-war/

People seem to forget that the Taliban of Afghanistan simply requested proof of Osama Bin Laden's involvement in 911 before turning him over. Bush refused to provide the documentation. Under their Islamic Law, they were prohibited from turning over a Muslim who had taken refuge in their country, unless proof was provided by the accuser. They entire problem could have been resolved by Bush in just a few days.

I hope West Point logic class is not that simple. The picture is so much more complicated when dealing with Muslim nations and terrorism and Palestine supporters and Israel and Sunna versus Shia and Chechnya and Iran and Somalia and Darfur and Kashmir and Abu Sayaaf.

The endless war in Afghanistan... The US has been there forever, before that Russia had been there forever. You guys know this isn't about terrorism 'n shyt, right?

Afghanistan has one of the largest concentrations of rare earth minerals on the planet... It's all about who gets control of stuff being removed from the ground. Same as it always was.

Yeah, I read about this. So sad. Looks like our government lied to us and toyed with human lives in the process. Maybe I'm going too far, but this kinda seems now like one of American's biggest military atrocities now. The speculations of a pointless unjust war have been confirmed now. How do we as a nation react to this?

I got same news for you. Viet Nam was also based on a fake reason. The Tonkin Gulf Incident never happened. McNamara said so.

I thought the Vietnam war was to prevent the spread of communism in Asia? I mean, not that that makes it America's business, but I thought our leaders at least thought their cause was just. In terms of goals and causes wasn't it the same as the Korean war?

The containment of Communism was an idea which started at the very end of WWII when an anonymous writer issued ARTICLE X in a well known foreign affairs journal that was used in the political science world, and government. It did call for the containment of Communism as a way to avoid an all out war. There were many war theaters after WWII and Korea, which included Angola, Somalia, and Biafra in Africa. And there were several south and central American Republics (see COVERUP … a film by Barb Trent & Empowerment Project). Then there was the Cuban Missile Crisis & Bay of Pigs Invasion. The Viet Nam war was launched to contain the Communists; but, it was based on a false incident. In COVERUP you can see and hear that Reagan was wanting to prevent a Soviet takeover of Iran. In 1969 Gaddafi overthrew King Idris and took control of Libya. That sent America's plans for North Africa into a tail-spin. Saddam Hussein was a client of both East and West, a strategy which failed.

    Worst. Military. Campaign. Ever.

Homer walked 10,000km across Alps with war elephants to take down a city. There's no excuses, America. :toetap05:

Vietnam: Money. Afghanistan:Money. Well, someone has to make the bombs, bullets, planes, tanks, ect, ect, ect, ect. Congress doesn't even have to declare war, which is, of course within their purview. Someone has to pay for all this: Look in the mirror.

That may have given a worthy motive but I'm not sure it excuses going to war over it like they did. Especially if you can't eradicate groups like the Taliban in that country and you know they will simply take back what they lost after your troops leave. Which was the plan from the beginning
