Well..lets start off at the basic..as mentioned above...can u use a sewing machine ?? that is key...u must have a machine..i hear people talk about hand sewing..and that is just crazy to me..using a machine is like driving..u push the pedal down and steer the fabric...plus i feel that w/ the machine and serger that u have way more quality garmets...

anyhow..if u can thread a machine and make a bobbin ur in business..:)

do u know anyone who can sew..if so, talk to them ALOT...

My mother helped me learn to sew...anytime i had a question..i just asked her...

u are more than welcome to p.m. and i shall answer any questions u may have..

some fabrics are harder to work with than others. I would recommend starting with something pretty basic.... no fancy textures, nothing with stretch to it. When i was learning I used plain cotton broadcloth. It comes in tons of colours, and it pretty much the easiest to work with. But, that's only my opinion... others might have started of differently. Also, some libraries offer free classes in various "home crafts"... so you could look there.

avoid slippery fabric, even as a hand sewer (gotcha) and see if the local fabric/crafts stores have classes.

This is true. It is like driving. And learning to use a machine is not difficult at all. It may seem a little weird for you at first, but once you get the hang of it it's like second nature.
Like icedteapriestess said, Fabrics are important too, basic cotten fabrics are your best bet to start out with, something that will lay flat and not move around on you too much.
But I hope you find someone who can show you the basics for you to get started! Good luck!
